I'm sure I could look the answer up on Alabama Outdoors, but this is easier. Is a special permit required to shoot hogs at night this time of year?

Original reply - Just not over bait I believe -
After looking -
Feral Swine (Privately Owned and Leased Lands Only)
May 1 - August 31

May be hunted daytime or nighttime hours

Dogs only - no firearms allowed.

Note: Permit may be obtained through your local district office for nighttime nuisance control hunting outside of the dates of deer season.

——-
The way somof the this stuff is written makes no sense. Why is there a dogs only no firearms statement?

What idiot would hunt hogs without a gun?

And, if I remember correctly you got a dead dog and a wounded dog. Hmm mm.
So it's illegal to transport them alive. What do you do, give em poison?

Yes sir some times the dogs get injured and even killed. That’s what dogs were bred for. To “Work”. I’m willing to bet there are very few people on this forum that kill more hogs than me a year. Of those people that do I’m also willing to bet the majority of them also hunt with dogs. And no I don’t transport them. I kill every hog I catch with a knife as soon as it is caught.

You definitely kill more hogs than me, no argument there.

killing them with a knife is by far the funnest. You cant explain to folks the rush you get walking into a bay. Especially if its a big hog. We dont turn our bulldogs loose till where very close. You dont know when that joker is fixing to break and run you over.

my grandson Dylan would rather knife a hog than anything in the world.

ALL the ones I killed at night over bait were with a bow. LOTS of fun.

Bet the farm if we had em like ol “Bay” I wouldn’t have near as many tree dogs and my knife would have a lot more blood stains on the handle.

I don't think you'd have any problems just going out to shoot hogs at night. Now I would definitely be sure not to be doing that in deer season. That'd be a different story.
