I would like to make some memories with my boy. Doves, upland birds, probably not ducks or turkey.

I would like to take him with me to SD in a few years but he will only be 9 this season and only went dove hunting once with me so far. He liked it though. I want him to remember hunting with dad when I give him my gun.

I was just hoping someone might know of any shorter distance than SD, fairly inexpensive trips.

Should be several places within a couple hours of your house where you can shoot pen raised quail and chuckars and what not.
If you wanted to make it a bigger event you could carry him down to one of the nicer plantations in south Alabama or Georgia. Most of them also have skeet shooting and a good bass pond to go along with the hunting.

Yea, Brent that's sort of the kind of thing I had in mind. Was hoping someone could recommend a place. Otherwise, I could just start calling adds in the hunting digest.

I went out to Crumpton Quail farm in Columbiana twice last year and had an absolute blast. A little far from you but they're super reasonable on pricing.

Gary does a great job out there. Really enjoyable hunts.

Check out the youth dove hunts the state puts on. Me and my boy made some awesome memories on those.

Well I don't know how it is now but 12-15 years ago, it was fun. We always went to Draper in Elmore county. I guess the state will figure out a way to screw up a good thing.

I really appreciate all the responses guys. I'll be looking into them.

I use to go on the youth dove hunts but the last 4-6 I went on were total crap. Either not a single bird sighted all day, or a field so crowded that there was no way a bird could get across it and 3 kids fighting over who shot it,not safe at all.

I still enjoyed those days in the field with my kids but I want them to experience some hunts like I did growing up.

Can you define "super reasonable"?

They have a site, but don't list prices. Anyone been on one of their dove hunts?

For dove shoots: Facebook says $100 opening day and $50 other Saturdays in September.
Don't know about quail.

I went to a couple good ones last year and I didn't pay but about $25. I'm cheap and don't need hotdogs made for me for a big price. Only problem is I don't remember who I contacted about those shoots to see if they are on this year.

I'm of similar mind. I'm not paying $300 for 3 people for half a day.
