Y’all seeing any prospects for next season in velvet yet? Have y’all found any good sheds from last seasons PBTs that made it?

Got a couple with good mass that look like 4 year olds. Got those deep chests and once rutted up I think will have huge necks on them. May have to break out the 30-06 to bring them down.

I found a giant den of crickets, I think they killed a yote mom and pups to take over their den. I set up a few hens in quail call back cages around the den to get the PBT’s used to coming in there in daylight.

No sheds found yet, but I did see some old scrapes and rubs, had to be from a PBT. Found a good set up downwind for next season. It can't be too far from where he is roosted.

This thread seems like a good place to post that I flushed 2 quail yesterday. It was astounding.

Preacher, I jumped a covey out of the high grass in my garden last week. 10 or so, all were about half grown except one adult. I have never saw that before. We have had one covey around with about 20 in it last year. I saw them several times. All the wild birds around the house seem to be growing in numbers. I have spent alot of time and money keeping them something to eat. I would like to think that has helped.

Man I miss quail hunting in Alabama with my granddad back in the 70.s, early 80's. I think days spent flushing 7-8 coveys of birds with 10-15 in it are long gone. Sad.

I saw a blurry bigfoot slipping up on a black panther that was slipping up on a velvet buck at a chlorox stump.

Still finding fresh rubs. They need to extend the season. Toms seem to be rutting later in the southern part of the state.

I’ve seen them shred light poles worse than that. Once they get the cald in them it’s like Finebaum on steroids.
