When I was TA-ing the fire mgmt class at Auburn while I was in grad school there, the professor always stressed NOT calling it a controlled burn. He said that in an instant it could become out of control, and much preferred 'prescribed' burn. I've seen a few get away from people over the years, but they never ended in property damage.
