My wife's folks own a condo at the beach and have for almost 20 years. They have asked me to help them do some advertising for rental, through digital means, starting with creating them a Facebook page. Before I even got it up and running I posted some upcoming open dates they have with the rates, cleaning fees and taxes. You would not believe the people that have come out of the woodwork, asking for big discounts or even FREE use for the week! People I haven't seen or heard from in 15 years! (Not that, that would make a difference). How does someone even have the nerve to do that? They might as well just have said, "how about giving me $1,700.00 for no particular reason". Every time I start to think people can't possibly surprise me anymore, I'm proven wrong.

If voting made any difference, they wouldn’t let us do it.-Mark Twain

Nothing surprises me any more. Monday my POS uncle texted my mom to see if he could come fish at her place. Hasn't bothered to call and check on her since dad died about three years ago, and never came to see my dad while he was sick. POS only lives about twenty minutes away.

A friend of mine had a couple of houses he rented in Seagrove a few years ago. A big ol pain in the butt getting the money and people just tearing stuff up. One week a bunch of drunks emptied his aquarium into the camode. He ended up having to re-pipe the entire drain lines. He sold them.

Lol......funny story. Couple of Christmases ago, one of my cousins who is a good-for-nothing lowlife that has been in and out of prison for drug-related charges stops by. He's an Eddie Haskell type (leave it to beaver)..........he'll sweet-talk his older family members and and generally try to come off as a perfect angel, and then turn a 180 as soon as they're gone. Anyway, someone was asking what he was doing these days, and he mentions he's gone to work for an investment firm (this is a kid that barely graduated highschool and didn't even pretend to go to college). One of my other cousins - who works for Raymond James - knew he was FOS and asked him which one. Dumbazz tries to tell everyone he's working for an up and coming firm called Stratton Oakmont. Other cousin just starts laughing and tells him, in front of everyone, what an idiot he is. First cousin gets mad and storms out.

Good times.

Hey 150. Do you remember that lawn mower I sold you a few years ago? I helped you load it up and gave you a good deal.

You mentioned you had access to a condo at the beach.......

I have no issue with people looking for a good deal. Heck, I use coupons and try to buy things when they are on sale, but to just ask someone if they can stay at a condo for free when it is clear that the owners are looking to make some money renting it out is just nuts.

People have no pride anymore. Seems like most folks want something for nothing.

Just about everyone we know, when they find out we are building a cabin and a place at the beach ask, "Are you going to rent them out?" I'm like... "Oh, 'Hell to the Naw Naw.'"

I know you can make some money at it, but I just don't know for me if it's worth the hassle and dealing with people. Maybe if I build something just for rental property or something... I don't know.

One way I gauged how people felt about my friendship when I had rank at the PD was who called me when they got a ticket. People that were truly my friends didn't call at all. Those that were only friends when they needed something would burn the phone line up only to be disappointed when I told them that it would be a violation of Alabama Code ( I used to know it but can't recall it now) to "fix" tickets. My sergeant is a very popular guy around town er are both retired and he still is. He printed the Statute on a certificate paper and framed it and hung it on his wall where people that came in to ask him for a "favor" saw it. We went to high school together and know the same people so having to get by him saved me a lot of NO's. There were even certain people that would walk in and Doug would ask them "who wrote you a ticket?"

Now there were certain true friends that if we heard, or saw on the recap sheet that they got a citation, we would ask the officer to do us a favor and reduce it too a warning. Of course, this was only on minor infractions and the first thing we asked was "Were they polite?". This was always done by us and not because they asked and only for good people that deserved a break. True friends don't want to put you in an uncomfortable situation. Its that simple. 5 years after retirement, people still come out of the woodwork asking for help with a ticket. I enjoy when they have to remind me how I know them and what such good friends we are.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

What's worse is when you're asked and say no they get all pissy about it.

Have you thought about listing it on Air B&B? I'm sure they take a cut but the upside it they manage it soup to nuts.

My kids use it like crazy and talked me into using it to stay at a place a few months ago. Was easy and very professionally managed all from an AP on my phone.
