John Ward, for years the announcer for Tennessee athletics, has died.

Years ago when I covered games and traveled a lot, it was great to spin the radio dial for an AM station and hear Ward, Fyffe, Forney, Munson, Cristil and others calling games. Surely helped pass the time on long nighttime drives.

I think he was the most entertaining sportscaster I ever listened to. Wonderful on basketball too. He was an icon to Tennessee fans

Sad to hear. He was very entertaining to listen to on a football game.

All the classic voices have faded away. Ward, Fyffe, Munson, Cristil, Forney, all those guys were a part of the soundtrack of my youth. I remember many days on the river or the dove field listening to those guys call a game. Being in the military with guys from all over south we always seemed to find a way to catch a broadcast.
A few years ago I'd have to make the drive from North Carolina to Alabama on Saturdays and I'd listen to SEC football games. It reminded me of how enjoyable it is to listen to a good game.

I've never had much of anything good to say about the Vols, and I revel in any misfortune that karma sees fit to dish out to them.

However this is real life and I hate to hear this news and the passing of a great rep of college football. RIP Mr. Ward.

Man, sitting in a dove field with someone's radio blaring, folks passing along scores or big plays, hearing something like "It's FOOTBALL TIME in TENNACEEEEE!", or the Million Dollar Band play Rammer Jammer, or "TOUCHDOOOOOWNNNN AUUUUBURNNNNN!", or anything related to all that, sure brings back good memories.
