Greystone is east of hwy 280 and Oak Mountain. Lots of woods and more rural areas to the east for many miles (Hwy 119 out to Lake Purdy/Liberty Park area; Hwy 25 from Leeds over the mountain to Sterrett, Vincent, Coosa River and Harpersville; Hwy 43 and Shoal Creek and all the Ebsco land then on to Pell City.)
If the bear did come over from Oak Mountain, there is a creek that goes under 280 around the Narrows.

this bear was on the south side of 280 just in between academy and jim n nicks You are correct. I didn't pay attention to the address listed, just the Greystone part. Little pocket of garden/small lot type homes next to Lee Branch shopping center. NOT over in Greystone "proper" which is across 280. Oak Mountain State Park isn't very far, just on other side of Eagle Point...maybe 2-3 miles to the SSW. Looking at a map, not a stretch to have an animal wander that way. Plenty of gardens and garbage cans for a bear to enjoy. I wonder if there are other bears in or around the area? I'm around the area all the time and have never seen anything other than deer, coyotes, foxes and varmits.
