Yea, that's the way I see it. Guys shoulders are angled up and arm is up. Really would like to know a measured length. That would answer all questions.

I doubt anyone here doesn't believe there are rattlesnakes over 6 feet long. I killed one in my back yard a few years ago that was 66 inches long. What people were doubting was that snake pic you posted claiming that a Western Diamondback that two guys were holding four feet out in front of them with snake poles was 7-8 feet long and killed in North Alabama.

At one time, the NY zoological society was offering a $10,000 reward to anyone who could deliver a live Eastern Diamond Back over 8' long.
I heard that several years ago, have no idea if it's still true, or ever was.
But I've never seen, or heard of, one anywhere near 8 feet.

Because of the angle you can't tell how far the snake is off the ground. It's clearly not as tall as the man holding it.

Outback, if that is still being offered,I will split the 10 grand with you, I will find the snake, you catch it...... No joke if it is still alive there is one over in Coosa co. that is at least 8' long, I know no one will believe me but about 5 years ago we were riding Coosa out by the underwater bridge it was a very nice September afternoon, well I look to my left and crawling down the bank to the road is this rattler that looks kinda big, so I pull up about 20' and get out and I swear may I die today that when that joker crawled across the road his rattlers were on one side of the road and his head was on the other, looked like a 8" pvc pipe crawling across the road...

before ya'll start, i don't give a flip if you believe me or not, I do not have pictures, I do have 3 eye witnesses...

I don't know if it was ever true, honestly.
But I don't mind catching a rattler. They are harmless until you piss them off.

I knew somebody was gona yell "long arm" on the pic. Theres no way to tell how long he really is in that pic but the size of the head itself tells me that its a huge rattler.

I had no idea rattle snakes could live multiple decades!!! WOW!! I also agree that a full grown timber rattler is about 48", probably the largest I have ever seen was 54". I have seen a 74" diamond back though (I should have mounted that one).

Killed one at Choccolocco about 20 years ago that was over 5 1/2 foot and didn't have a single rattle on it. Weird as could be. Couldn't put both hands around it and I have medium to large hands.

I don't blame him! I'd have done the long arm pose as well to get him as far away from me as I could. Ha!

I'd mount him on my wall

I'd mount it in a coiled pose with a spring in side it and mail it to Ben.

I killed one in Baxley, Ga in 1990 that was pretty dang long. We laid her on the tailgate of a 1989 Mazda B2200 pick up. The head was touching the ground on one side and the rattles were nearly laying flat on the ground on the other side of the tailgate. The snakes back was as wide as the calf of my leg and she had 22 rattles. I was the last one out of the cemetery after my grandmothers funeral and I saw the snake crawling across the cemetery driveway right next to the little church. Nearly 100 people had been walking thru the gate where I killed the snake. One of my cousins took the snake and was going to preserve the hide. My uncles claimed that those size easterns were not all that uncommon around there.

I pulled into CAD and measured the widest part of the head and assumed it was 3". Since the snake is apparently hanging plumb dead (pun intended), the calculation CAD comes up with the length is 6' 1/4". If you assume the head is 2" wide, the snake is 4'-11 1/8". So, it is probably somewhere in between. If someone can come up with a different scale, I'll run it again.
