I hope to spray a field today to help kill at the root a bunch of small sweetgums, plus other various junk. I have the options of glyphosate or Gordon’s Brush Killer (both already purchased in the past for other projects by my cousin). Personally I have used glyphosate a lot, but clueless about the ingredients in the other stuff. If I use the Gordon’s, would that affect summer or fall plots? In other words, is this stuff inactive once hitting the soil or can the herbicide linger?

That is what is called 2-4D.....it's a broadleaf weed killer often times mixed with glyphosate to create a little more potent concoction.

So good or bad to use if planning to plant a month to a few months afterwards? Not sure if we’ll do summer too or fall only.

Looks 2-4D won’t kill the sweet gum by itself.

It will not persist and affect fall planting. It also won’t kill sweetgum Unless they are very young.

If you do the things you need to do when you need to do them then someday you can do the things you want to do when you want to do them.

central ala,
I kill gums with gly. Like everything else I kill with it you have to get on top of the plant. I've been spraying a lot of privet and hackberry this summer up to about 15' tall. Get it on top and covered well and it's killing it really well.

Just be aware that dicamba has been known to drift through air particles farther than what you’d think it could. Wouldn’t spray it anywhere near beans, peas or peanuts.

And watch 24d near cotton. It's the worst of it all. Unless it's phytogen enlist cotton of course

The 24d and dicamba are also deadly around fruit trees. I’ve killed dozens of fruit trees spraying around them. As stated above, it will drift MUCH further than you can possibly imagine. I’ve personally seen drift damage at 300 yards with no winds. Farmers report drift damage of sensitive plants (think vegetable gardens) of over a mile

An inversion at dark can carry dicamba or 24d vapor for a mile or so under wrong conditions
