So I really don't get it! What in the world would ever make a person think it is OK to poach on land. Let alone posted land that is well known to be private property. I mean, clearly our state has plenty of stupid, inbred, redneck, morons, but is it really worth getting shot over?

I guess my frustration comes from now managing 1800 acres of land that had previously been unposted. But after several hundreds of dollars in cables, locks, gates, and signs. We still have A-holes using our land as if it were their own.

One might think it would be easier if these dumb A's would get a job and pay for their own lease, or join a club, or hunt management areas. Yes, I have read lots of people on this site that say hunting has become a rich mans sport. However, there are lots of clubs out there who have memberships for $500-$1,000. If you can't afford that then, well, you might want to find another hobby. Once again, lots of public hunting in Alabama.

BTW.....average trespassing fine in Alabama is $1,000.00. Not including poaching fines.

So can anyone explain it to me?!!!!

Hunting brings out the worst in people.

I know a guy with a wildlife degree. I was going to get him to come to my camp and pay him to give me some management advice. That never happened because he later revealed that he had done some poaching just for the thrill of it. I didn't want him near our property after that. Maybe that's what drives some of them.

BTW...average trespassing fine is NOT $1000. Get yer terminology correct, trespassing and poaching(hunting w/o permit) ain't the same thing.

Criminal trespass 3 is usually well under $500 inc court costs.

HUnting w/o permit, depending on the judge/county, is usually north of $500.

what land and where????

This, yes.

Call the game wardens and get them involved. Have the GWs and Sheriff's department numbers on your phone(s). Prosecute them every time.

I find that it helps if you talk like Samuel L Jackson in Pulp Fiction when you do catch them redhanded. Something about a 1911 in their face and quoting ominous biblical scripture from the Book of Ezekiel (25:17 to be specific) that really helps a man want to find Jesus in his time of need.

Even worse is when you catch the POS neighbor that has almost 4 times as much acreage poaching over on your side of the fence.

Jeff county sheriff told me that trespassing was $1,000.00. But I really don't care if the fine is $1 or $100,000.00. Either way you are involved in a shameful act. It is just like going into someone's house and stealing from them. I wasn't trying to quote the cost, just trying to point out that it takes a real dumb A to go on someone's property.

Furthermore, killing an animal is not a hard thing to do. It doesn't make you smarter, cooler, or more of a man. So why break laws and take a chance on getting your face smashed in or even God forbid killed for doing it.

I guess these poacher types just weren't raised right and the redneck moron gene was just pasted down from uncledaddy or auntmommy or someone else in the family tree with no branches.

Hold on a minute, guys. Are we talking about turkey season here? I’m fairly certain I read on aldeer that property lines aren’t valid March 15 onward.

Pretty sure I could shoot a poacher in the face a couple times with TSS loads if he was on the ground in full camo!!! Court would have a hard time prosecuting me on that one. I would just say I thought it was a turkey.....or a big pile dog sheeeet..

If I shot someone for poaching, I would have compromised my beliefs and brought myself down to their level. This would never happen. I would only draw down on another if my life or the life of another was threatened. However, that is the scary part. With the lack of brains these rednecks have, it might turn into a situation like that. Which goes back to my first point, why would anyone poach?...Just seems like a really bad idea.

They are just willing to stretch their limits a little further than you are, examples speeding, CC in a non CC designated area, etc.

I remember a situation once when I came home on leave. I stopped by to see a relative that worked at K&B drug store in West Mobile, there was a red dirt path going straight to the beer cooler, a rednek was raising hell at the counter over a reciept because “he didn’t buy this gawddamn (tx) and ain’t gonna pay for it”. A fight broke out and the cops were called...tx is tax!
