Little ole Samford is taking big ole FSU to the woodshed right now. 6-1 bottom of 5th. Meanwhile Bama is at the house and can't field a team that would be competitive with most upper level high schools. Unbelievable.

No excuse to not be at least as good as Troy...who is actually pretty good. They definitely play with a different attitude than Alabama. Auburn has more potential than what they field also.

I am trying my best to watch this samford game but dadgum is there anything as boring as a baseball game? How people make kids under 10 play this game is beyond me. Kids dont have the attention span it requires to play baseball. I played and was pretty good until sophmore yr in highschool, but this game is so slow imo now days. While I love college baseball and softball i fully understand what you are saying. It's just not for everyone. I feel the way you do about NASCAR, golf, and tennis. Just not for me.

And why in the heck can you run to first after you strike out. Thats the weirdest rule in baseball yo me? You have to get out twice if the catcher drops the ball for some reason when you did not put the ball in play ever??? Catcher doesn't even have to drop it. Swing and a miss at one in the dirt and it's on. Rule is officially uncaught third strike.
"Cull" is just another four letter word...

Corndogs are struggling with the Beavers. Hess is off tonight They getting dealt with in Beaverland. Oregon State has always interested me as a baseball power. But they’ve earned respect.

Auburn is getting confident and swinging the bat pretty good now I may agree with the confidence part, but hitting against Northeastern’s #1 and Army’s #2 doesn’t really tell you much. The bats went cold in Hoover against TAM and Miss and it was ugly those two games.

Miss State is having an epic 3rd inning against OU. But I don’t understand who thought it was a good idea for MSU to wear all black in the Tallahassee heat and humidity.
I’m pulling for either of the Mississippi schools to win it all.

Well, the premier baseball program in this state, Troy, . Nope State of AL rankings: Auburn Troy Samford UAB Jacksonville St Alabama People can make the numbers read what they want but IMO that is probably pretty accurate. But programs aren't built in one year. If looking at a number say 15 years it would probably still start with Auburn and Troy 1 and 2. #3....who knows, possibly USA. Thus the frustration for someone who watches Alabama. No excuse for them not being in the 1 or 2 spot in state over 15 years. All state schools have equal rules and regs but Alabama should be able to attract some top level in state talent.

Truthfully, there are probably a couple of Jr. College teams that fit in there somewhere, too. That might also be true if you looked at the last 15 years. Remember a lot of 2 year schools are just prep work for the draft.

Troy is like your typical mid-major or small D1 when playing against the big boys. Just like in football where several of these smaller schools can hang with the most of the big boys for the first half of the game then late in the 3rd quarter, that roster depth starts coming into play. Same thing in baseball. Based on what I saw this weekend, Troy just did not have the pitching depth. Once they got past their first 2 starters, they were pretty much done. You've got to have 4-5 solid starters to compete in the regional format due to the potential number of games you may end up playing. The format heavily favors the bigger LSU's, Ole Misses, Floridas, etc.
Troy can play with anyone and be competitive, if it's a one game winner take all deal with both staffs having fresh arms, but in a regional format, that lack of both starting and bullpen depth just always comes back to bite the smaller schools 95% of the time. The bigger schools, with more prestige, better facilities, more money etc, attract those better pitchers that aren't the #1 or #2 guy but are still very solid pitchers, because they get more exposure at the bigger schools which is what those guys are looking for. Typically, their 4, 5, and 6 guys would be the 1 or 2 guy at a smaller school like Troy. Look at the resumes of Florida's or LSU's number 4, 5 and 6 guys and then compare them to Troy's. Troy did very well and should be congratulated considering the above.
AU played very well but will most likely end up facing Florida in the super-regional. If AU's bats stay hot, they've got a really good chance to beat FL. FL was super hot starting the season but was 4-6 in its last 10 games coming into the regional. AU has a 50/50 if not better chance to knock FL off this year.

Oklahoma's starting quarterback this coming season, Kyler Murray, went #9 in the draft...meaning he has about a $4-5 million dollar decision to make.

SC is already in the Super Regionals, too.
UF is fighting for a spot right now. Very early, but not looking good for them right now. Down 2-0, with FAU having runners on 1st and 2nd and only one out.

The gaters were down by 2 and looking like shucks when I walked away from the TV a few minutes ago. If the Fighting Kiffins pull it out AU will host the super regional.

It be AU vs. the gaters in G'ville. They pulled it out, but really didn't look that good today. Quite a few fielding problems the gaters need to get worked out.

Well the SEC ain't looking so hot anymore. Arkansas, Auburn, State, and Vandy all seem to be pretty hot. Maybe they can make a run through Omaha 6 of the 16 teams left in the country are from the SEC. then As 3F said the 6 SEC teams are playing each other in the supers. Which guarantees 3 of the final 8 in Omaha will be from the SEC. not bad IMO

If I remember correctly, one year several years ago it was like 6 of the 8 teams in Omaho where from the SEC. Every since then they seem to get paired up before it gets to that point. SEC hold the record with 4 they’ve done it 3 times. 97, 04, and 15

Then after that it looked like they paired them up so to knock each other off. Then there was the season turmoil with northern teams complaining about southern teams starting the season earlier than they could. So that changed.

Oklahoma's starting quarterback this coming season, Kyler Murray, went #9 in the draft...meaning he has about a $4-5 million dollar decision to make. The decision has already been made. He's playing football in the fall and will join the A's after bowl season is over. How do you remain a student athlete if you are not in school for spring and summer?

Somebody needs to kick these Vanderbilt whistlers in the nuts. I'm about to have to mute the tv Try sitting here listening to it in person. They haven’t shut up the whole game.
I had much rather be tried by twelve than carried to my grave by six!!!!

Vandy/MSU game is phenomenal. Vandy down by 3 going into the bottom of the 9th, has hit two homers to tie it.

Yeah the MSU pitcher felt Pappanastos pain after giving up 2 homers in bottom of the ninth. Luckily, his teammates picked him up and pulled out the win in extras. Great game.

Mississippi State got it done again last night bottom of the ninth. That was a great defensive game by both teams. I watched the whole thing and it came down to State having a few more good sticks than Washington had.

Since Alabama is no longer a factor in Omaha, I pick a team to pull for. It's always an SEC team and for various reasons. Miss. St. usually one of my favorites when they are there. The reason is State always fields a team that looks like they just set their beer down and runs out on the field. These guys look like any you find at an Alabama hunting camp. A bunch of misfits that fit no mold. Usually they have a few from our state playing. Come across as a bunch of good old country boys. Yep! I agree! MSU has a really good center fielder with Mangum. His dad played DB at Bama back in late 80's. Dude is for real. I would love to see MSU go all the way. Dr. B

Florida's hitting, which was a huge strength for them nearly the entire season, has fallen off the map in the last month. Last night was no different.

State is hammering UNC right now. This has been a long inning for the tar heels I have it on in the background at work. Went down to the lab for a few minutes...4-2 state...come back and now it's 12-2.

Saw a little of the Oregon St./UNC game and the admitted child molester was pitching for OSU and the announcers acted like they were in shock that he hasn't been drafted either this year or last. Talk about ignoring the elephant in the room....sheesh.

Well State made a mess of that one tonight. Hopefully they can bounce back Yea, their problems started before the game and went down hill from there. Maybe they'll come back but Oregon St. is strong.

MSU pitching was suspect all along. Their hitting is what saved their hides in the regional and super regionals. Wheels were bound to come off at some point. Should have won that 3rd game but giving up 5 runs with 2 outs is just about inexcusable. Their pitching was solid from that point on but the damage was done early.

Dr. B I thought they made a good run, for a team that wasn't even gonna make the SEC tournament until they swept Florida that final series. Definitely, a whirlwind kind of season. Maybe the new coach will be able to get them back there next season.

Well that was a college version of bill Buckner. What a screw up on a foul ball. Don't recall ever seeing a ball drop between 3 players with so much on the line.

2nd baseman (Shaddy?) blew it on the foul ball, IMO. He tried to be the hero and called the others off, then overran the dang ball. Should have been the right fielder's play. Would have been a fairly routine catch for him.

At the time Shaddy called it, the RF was still a good ways from it. Shaddy had a better angle than 1B, so it was his until RF calls him off. RF probably didn’t call him off because he figured he was gonna be camped under it since he called for it. Total cluster.

That one will be tough to bounce back from, but OSU is out of pitching.
Hopefully, that will be the difference. But, Arky hasn't exactly ripped the cover off the ball in the first two games. They've been very, very fortunate to have gotten most of the runs they've scored thus far in the championship series. Maybe they can get back to the form they used in the first 3 games tonight.

I don't know why the RF didn't call everybody off. It's his ball if he calls it. He ended up being right there and was closest to the ball when it hit the ground anyway. Shaddy had the toughest play of all of them to get there and was hustling to make the play and just overran it.
That one will be tough to bounce back from, but OSU is out of pitching. I didn't know if there was a "seniority" for calling for a foul ball. Does the outfielder usually get preference, if he calls for it?

The RF has priority over the 1B and 2B, 2B has priority over 1B on those batted balls. Meaning if RF calls it 1B and 2B get out of his way. If 2B calls it, 1B gets out of the way. If more than one call it, the priority system takes over. Most high school players learn this, some even sooner. I believe what happened is 2B called it but overran it and RF wasn't sure he would get there. That is fundamental baseball that shouldn't have happened, but If Arky wins tonight, no one will remember that play next week. If they lose however, it goes down as one of the greatest Billy Buckner moments in baseball.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I heard the Arky coach trying to play down the foul ball play after they lost the series. 2nd baseman had too much steam running, loud crowd, lights, wind, blah, blah, blah. He said it would have been worse had it happened in the outfield. Really?
I know he's supposed to protect his player and that's cool but c'mon just call it what it is. Baseball. Tough break at the absolute worst time. 99/100 times the guy makes that play and they are celebrating in Fayetteville. I really hope that 2nd baseman doesn't get harassed like that Steve Bartman fan from the Cubs who cost them the series when he interfered with that foul ball. That would suck.
