Well, the premier baseball program in this state, Troy, . Nope State of AL rankings: Auburn Troy Samford UAB Jacksonville St Alabama People can make the numbers read what they want but IMO that is probably pretty accurate. But programs aren't built in one year. If looking at a number say 15 years it would probably still start with Auburn and Troy 1 and 2. #3....who knows, possibly USA. Thus the frustration for someone who watches Alabama. No excuse for them not being in the 1 or 2 spot in state over 15 years. All state schools have equal rules and regs but Alabama should be able to attract some top level in state talent.

Truthfully, there are probably a couple of Jr. College teams that fit in there somewhere, too. That might also be true if you looked at the last 15 years. Remember a lot of 2 year schools are just prep work for the draft.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Troy is like your typical mid-major or small D1 when playing against the big boys. Just like in football where several of these smaller schools can hang with the most of the big boys for the first half of the game then late in the 3rd quarter, that roster depth starts coming into play. Same thing in baseball. Based on what I saw this weekend, Troy just did not have the pitching depth. Once they got past their first 2 starters, they were pretty much done. You've got to have 4-5 solid starters to compete in the regional format due to the potential number of games you may end up playing. The format heavily favors the bigger LSU's, Ole Misses, Floridas, etc.
Troy can play with anyone and be competitive, if it's a one game winner take all deal with both staffs having fresh arms, but in a regional format, that lack of both starting and bullpen depth just always comes back to bite the smaller schools 95% of the time. The bigger schools, with more prestige, better facilities, more money etc, attract those better pitchers that aren't the #1 or #2 guy but are still very solid pitchers, because they get more exposure at the bigger schools which is what those guys are looking for. Typically, their 4, 5, and 6 guys would be the 1 or 2 guy at a smaller school like Troy. Look at the resumes of Florida's or LSU's number 4, 5 and 6 guys and then compare them to Troy's. Troy did very well and should be congratulated considering the above.
AU played very well but will most likely end up facing Florida in the super-regional. If AU's bats stay hot, they've got a really good chance to beat FL. FL was super hot starting the season but was 4-6 in its last 10 games coming into the regional. AU has a 50/50 if not better chance to knock FL off this year.
