Since you aren't trying to make a crop it really doesn't matter. You are only planting to provide food that will help the deer and get them accustomed to eating on your property. I broadcast soybeans and corn with the iron clays. If you want to save money, plant feed grade seeds. Just seed heavy.

I’ve planted iron clay peas anywhere from early May til the first week of August before. Obviously if you’re trying to benefit your deer then planting earlier is better but there’s plenty of time to plant.
Wish it was hunting season.....year round

IRON clay peas can be planted anytime I usually plant a mix of ironclad peas, sunflowers and sorghum during April. BUT this year I'm going to plant soybeans after the 4th of July. I'M hoping they make it and last on into bow season. Maybe I will get lucky. Better have some big ass fields or they gone in 3 weeks.
Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!
