According to Googling the Interwebs there are 2 prop shops in Huntsville. I dearly wish there was one closer than that, but I digress.

I finally got my motor running right, and got the jack plate back on today. My motor is running 5500 RPM's at WOT with the jack plate on. I'm still getting a little porpoising on slick water. Basically none on choppy water. I guess the chop is "bouncing" the bow up enough that the motor can hold it.

The prop on my motor is a 20 pitch Laser II. It's in very good condition.

Questions....

Should I drop to a 19 pitch to get the RPM's up to 5650-5700?
Should I go with a 4 blade prop? Will that give me more bow lift, or at least help the motor to keep the bow up while on plane?

Now for the jack plate. Other than a little better handling in a turn and 100 RPM's, I can't tell the jack plate is on the boat. My goal of putting on the jack plate was to get more of the boat up out of the water. The spray is coming up off the boat right around the helm. That much drage is killing fuel economy. I started out with around 5" pad to prop. Still porpoising. I adjusted it while on the water, lowering it an inch, thinking that would give me more bow lift. I could tell no difference at all between the two settings. What I want to accomplish may not be possible with the 115 on the boat. During all my digging and reading I have learned that a 115 has the same displacement as a 130. Now I'm wondering what I'd have to do to get that extra 15 HP. smile

Call and talk to the owner of the pro shop I’m meridian mst in Huntsville. He has repaired and repitched props for me. Called him up several months ago when I had several of the questions you have and he took the time to answer all of them. I have been very happy with the prop he suggested and the price was reasonable.

Fur, get on Bass Boat Central and register if not. You WILL have all your question answered there. There is a specific "boat set up" forum. Lots of good guys over there.

To me, sounds like the JP needs to be raised up not down. Find a 4 blade and try it. Keep going up on JP until the water pressure starts to fall. You also may need to try a foil on your foot to get the lift you are looking for. Guy in LA makes aluminum ones that are killer. Maybe this helps.

Nick334 is right best guy I have found. Good price and alittle hint: if you pay cash when u drop off you might get pushed to front of line if there is one. Speaking from experience.

Fur, a 4 blade will give you lift and faster out of the hole. Better all-round performance.

I got permanently banned on there for calling McCain and Obama worthless POS. Seriously.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

I tried to find the thread on it, but Bass Boat Central, BBC and a mass registration of new users over there by ALDEER members. It got funny in a hurry and the mention of ALDEER over there will get you the hammer grin

Man I love ALDEER rofl

I don't know about your particular motor but I was told that the difference is in the chip. Apparently lots of motors are built mechanically the same but need a different chip to burn richer, fire hotter, fire sooner or something like that. You may have already guessed that I'm not much of a mechanic, but one told me something very similar to that one day. Oh, and I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

If you've kept up with my boat threads, you've probably figured out I'm not much of a mechanic either. LOL I can make one look awful good on the outside and inside but that mechanism on the rear end has kept me guessing.

Thanks for the recommendations for using William Bush at Huntsville Prop Sales and Service. That guy knows his stuff and is just an overall super nice guy. I called and talked with him and he wanted me to bring my prop with me when I came over. He wanted to check it and see if it was okay. I told him I had only had it a couple months but he still wanted to check it. When I got there he put it on his jig and started checking each blade to see if the rake and pitch was correct. One blade was out probably 3/8 of an inch on the tail end of the blade. I saw that for myself when he sat the gauge down on it. He said, "you must have hit something pretty good to bend it like that." I haven't hit a thing. I bought the prop from a prop shop in TX. He reset each blade to factory specs and wanted me to run it and see how my boat performed before he added more cup to the blades. I got back, put it on and hit the lake. It ran great. Shot out of the hole, bow rode up off the water like it should and I couldn't make it porpoise one bit unless I over trimmed to the point of nearly blowing out. I am thrilled and I'm so thankful that you guys recommended him.

I had talked to a guy at the other prop shop in Huntsville last week and he told me that the jackplate was causing my porpoising. I'm glad I didn't go to him for service.
