Wife and I stopped by Walmart on the way to the beach today to buy a chair and a 6 pack. Get up to the checkout line and the lady asks for both of our ID’s. I tell her that my wife is not buying the beer and does not have her ID on her. The lady says she needs both of our ID’s, Walmart corporate policy. Told her to keep her beer and I would go down the road to somewhere that doesn’t have pointless rules. This is why I try to never shop at Walmart. Rant over.

What the hell do they do when a parent buys beer with a kid in the cart!? That’s about as stupid as not letting a cashier ring up beer because they’re under 21. That’s happened to me at Publix.

I understand why they do it. Lots of folks trying to sue for every little thing this day and time. Straw buyers happen all the time.

In TN every store that sells booze is supposed to check ID no matter how old you are. All the mini-mart type stores do it and it's a pain in the ass.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

All you had to do is have her walk off. If she isn't there they can't ask to see it.

I hate being asked for my phone number or anything else when I’m paying with cash. Just ring it up and take the money. It freaks the cashiers out to ask for their phone number when they ask for mine.

My daughter works at Publix. She is over 21 but only a couple of years. Sometimes she travels to different stores to puchase various adult beverages to make sure the cashiers check ID.

I use my bank card about 99% of the time and am constantly asked for my phone number. I just say, "I'd rather not" . transaction is completed and I leave with my merchandise.

They sell it to them. A few months ago I bought a six pack or 12 pack, along with other groceries, at Walmart and had my 10 year old with me. As we started to leave, my 10 year old started to reach for the cart to push it out. The cashier stopped him and told me had he touched the cart, she would have had to of taken the beer back. I guess it didn't matter that he had pushed the cart all over the store already.

How much more did it cost than at Walmart? Save time and money, could have just shown both ID's.

I've had it happen to me while in Florida. It didn't bother me, their game, their rules. I always make sure we have ID's handy now when on vacation amd what not.

How much more did it cost than at Walmart? Save time and money, could have just shown both ID's.

Don't blame WalMart for this. They were just in CYA mode. The blame should be on the children who choose to get drunk and drive, and the person that bought the alcohol for them. The kids wreck a vehicle and get killed and the parents sue the store that sold it to someone of legal age who then sold it or gave it to the kids. Of course there is no money in suing the person that bought the beer or wine for the kids so you sue the party with the deep pockets which happens to be WalMart.

Cooperate CYA. It's the world we live in.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I promise if any of y'all who were behind the OP in line would have been frothing at the mouth if he said, "Honey, just run out to the car and get your ID and bring it back so we can finish checking out."

I understand the desire to crack down on underage drinking, but it would be nice if some common sense was also used. I think it is ridiculous that a family cannot go to the store as a family and check out with alcohol now. I guess if you have your family with you, only one of you needs to wait in line and pay for things and be sure to have the ID handy.

There have been times when we have gone in a store and I didn't carry a purse in because DoA had the same plastic in his wallet that I would have used otherwise, but we have not run into that particular issue with just the two of us.

I can tell you that if your teenage son owes you money, asking him for it while checking out with your beer at Walmart is not the best idea. He had a similar reaction as the OP. We left and he got it elsewhere.

One time my brother and I were at Wal-Mart picking up a few items and got some beer. My nephew, who was probably 12 at the time, was with us. We were standing at the checkout and my nephew was unloading the buggy. The cashier said to my brother “he is not allowed to touch the alcohol” to which my brother replied “hell he put it in the buggy! If you don’t want him touching it then put it up on a damn shelf where he can’t reach it!”.

I just left the beer and about $100 worth of other stuff sitting on the register counter and left. Went across the street and bought the same stuff with no problems.

I once had a brain dead manager, at Academy in montgomery, refused to sell me more than one box of 5.56 ammo. He claimed it was "federal law" that I could only purchase one box.
I was polite, the first time I explained to him there was no such law. The second time I threw the box at him and told him he could keep the $100 worth of other stuff I was about to purchase as well.

Same thing happened to my wife and I last week at the Walmart in Destin. We were in there post dinner at like 8:00pm with our 8 month old who was way past bedtime already. My wife had to go get her ID out of the car. Walmart in Montgomery damn sure doesn't ask for both of our ID's nor does the local grocery store that we shop at.

Just don't get mad at the clerk that is enforcing store policy. Have a problem showing your id, take it to the store manager. The clerk is only performing their job in the way they were instructed to do.

Back in Texas in March we had a buggy full of beer for our week's stay and I heard the check-out woman say she needed to see everyone's ID. I just walked away. Stupid rules.

This probably is something akin to "common sense beer laws,"

Just FYI, too, Target also checks IDs like this. Or the snotty woman who asked for mine did the last time I was in there. I left everything on the counter and walked out.

Retail stores can set their policies. I can choose to go elsewhere.

If I was buying beer illegally for an underaged person, I damn sure e wouldn't have them in the store with me.
Back in the day when we would run to Prichard and get someone to buy us some beer, I damned sure wouldn't walk in with him laugh

When I have been asked that question I just reply "I dont know that person. They are not with me".

Its like having to show ID to buy a knife (Im looking at you Academy).

they did this to my father in law he had a whole buggy full of stuff my 8 year old daughter helped unload th buggy on the belt she just so happened to put the 12 pack of budlight up there with some cokes and drpepper well the cashier tells my father in law they cant sell him the beer because my daughter put it on the conveyor. he got the manager involved told them that it was insulting to him that they would do that as if he was going to give an 8 year old beer just because she was trying to be helpful. he left about 300 dollars worth of stuff at the register and told them to kiss his ass and went to winndixie

There will be others who easily make up that $300 and won't care about showing an ID. Just like Dick's Sporting Goods making up the loss of a few gun owners with the stick-and-ball sports buyers.
