Can't they sing the National Anthem the way it should be sang?

I guess I'm getting "get off my lawn" old, and am a Veteran.

Yeah i think the cool thing to do now is to see how bad can you butcher the NA. Even though i dont know which one in particular your talking about.

The singer's now a days want to put their own personality in it when they sing. 100 times out of 100 it sucks. The song is what it is, sing it like it was meant to be sung and don't try to spin it to suit you. You know, just like the constitution.

Had the All Star race on the TV. I was in the kitchen, but could hear it. Don't even know who was singing it.

Most of them totally butcher it and then act like they meant to sing it that way. Total bs. Many "recording artist" nowadays can't even sing without heavy digital enhancements.

The navy guy who sings it at sporting events does a good job. No frills or personal spin on it.
Our National anthem is not for interpretation or artistry during its singing. It’s not even a performance. It’s ceremony, IMO.

One of our own sang it at one of the Talladega races several years ago if my memory is correct.

Supposedly it started out in pubs sung by drunken patriots to the tune of a British drinking song. I am fine with any way it gets sung as long as it gets sung.

I've heard very few renditions that were personalized that were any good. Most just suck so bad.

To me, it is disrespectful. I would smack my kids if they sang it being silly.......which is how the "artists" sound to me.

Because they have to turn it into a Me Show, just like in some contemporary churches with praise "bands."

Before this goes on, I've held that belief for years. But I've also seen it in traditional churches where the performance seemed to overshadow the meaning, which IMO is to make a joyful noise until the Lord.

Not "make yourself the center of attention with the organ performance or instrument solo or Whitney Houstonesque-esssque-eeesssssque singing performance."

I agree with the OP. Sing the anthem in about 2:30 or so, don't try to make it about yourself and have some appreciation for what it is instead of gaping in the spotlight for as long as you can drag it out.

Damn I never thought I’d see my dad come out of me but every year I’ve seen more and more of it. I’m getting where I don’t tolerated BS and disrespect from the public.

Ive been to a couple of those "contemporary" services and found myself wanting to run away fast.
They say it helps to recruit and retain the younger generation of people who are turned off by old school religion. I say if you're turn off by a traditional rendition of "old rugged cross" you're likely to be going to hell anyway.
