I think a camera or two would be a good start. Personally since you already know you have deer on the property,I would just put them in areas where you think they would be without the use of an artificial attractant. Learn what it is they like about your place and how they use it. Then later on if you have the money you can enhance things with supplementals. Also don't forget maybe doing some small game like squirrels, rabbits and such. Do it on public land or something if you are concerned about over pressuring the deer. Kids that age can get burnt out pretty quick if we aren't careful and sometimes it helps to mix it up. It'll also teach the basics of skinning and cooking . Welcome to the forum.

Put out a corn pile and put a camera on it. That will give you and that 10 year old plenty of pictures to look at over the summer.

I like corn, cameras, mineral licks and blinds. Iā€™d put up a couple 2-man ladders too if I could. Or a ladder and a lock on.

It takes a lot to run me off. šŸ˜ I was trying to put up a picture of the best looking 10 year old kid you've ever seen but I'm not too tech savvy and can't figure it out. As for truck tires, I guess it depends on the truck. šŸ˜‚

Iā€™m a Tennessee transplant and would be glad to help you out. The good thing about Tennessee deer, especially Perry county is there is a bunch of them.

We're just south of you in Hardin County. My lease is at Crossroads, near Olivehill. Been there, nigh on 20 years now. Y'all should come down sometime and at least break bread and have a cold drank with us when we're up there.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

Not sure if tennessee has something comparable but it would be worth the drive to participate in a BECOMING AN OUTDOORS WOMAN weekend that is put on by the conservation department. They do a pretty good job.

I have looked into that. It seemed like most of it doesn't apply to me. I can shoot a gun and a bow pretty well, I kayak and fish a lot, and can build a pretty good campfire. It looks like a lot of fun though.

If it's not a cutover create more bedding area, don't over hunt it, and plant year round. Be in the woods when the bucks are on their feet during daylight. Use the wind. Look for natural funnels, terrain changes examples hardwood to pine or pine to cutover, and pinch points.

I think its cool that your wanting to get your boy into outdoor sports. Parents not doing this is whats wrong with alot of these kids coming up now.
