I have never fished the Tennessee river other than Guntersville. I am planning on going to Pickwick next weekend to try and catch some small mouth as I have never fished for them. I would appreciate any help on places to fish and what to use on Pickwick to catch smallmouth.
Thank you in advance for any help.

Either lake be careful and stay in the channel What he said. Dangerous water . People are killed every year down there that fish it all the time.

Wilson between the two for quantity. Pickwick for quality. To me Wilson is the safest between the two. Especially if you fish the tail race. Below wheeler the water stays 9-12 feet. Below Wilson I've never seen it over 3ft with huge rocks that like to eat up lower units. I'm 45minutes from both and hit them regularly. Normally. You are correct on most of this but there is one rock pile Below the island and 2nd tower that I cringe every time I see a boat run across it. With the water is low Its a lower unit eater. People who dont fish up here much never know its there and run way too close to it.
Its not the will to win but the will to prepare to win!

I heard there was two pretty big tournaments on Pickwick Saturday and lots of people ran to fish below Wilson dam. The guy said you could cast and hit the boat next to you there were so many boats up there. I sure hope that isn't the case this Friday and Saturday.

This! I lost a lower unit on that rock pile several years ago, and I know others who have done the same.
