Surprised I didn't find a thread about it this morning. Gonna cost a lot of money.

I saw this Saturday and that AHSAA wants to make it available to everyone, which made me think "How is a school in a struggling system that can't pay for updated books and equipment going to handle an instant replay system?"

Perhaps "make it available" means "If you have the money and want to license it, learn to use it and employ it, then it'll be available to you." I can't see someone like Notasulga or Aliceville or Skyline or other small and/or financially struggling schools doing this.

Like video replay for refs? Seems unnecessary for high school. Surprised anyone cares enough to go through the trouble on this.

I saw where the same company(something dvs?) that does it for the nzaa is doing it for ahsaa. When they allowed electronics on the sidelines, there are instances where they could have been used for IR...but i'm not seeing how any high school (even the hoovah's) will be able to run enough cameras, and shoot the game like live televised, to make it work? Most schools run 2 cams...pressbox shot and endzone shot. The box shot is wide view and most end zones shoot tackle to tackle. There are a few instances that would be caught, but I don't see a bunch of them.

The harder I practice, the luckier I get.

I think it's a good thing. I heard the man over AHSAA explaining on jox last week. He said not every school has to take part in ir but I be live most schools won't have a problem acquiring everything needed for ir.

Amazing what we have for technology today. Just 35 years ago - which seems like an eon now - our HS games were filmed on 16mm rolls that had to be switched during games and hopefully not miss any plays, then processed or whatever after the game, and then coaches would drive Saturday mornings to "switch game film" with opposing teams or other friendly teams so they could study and plan plays, and then review our game with the team Sunday afternoon.

I guess now everything is digitized, available immediately or almost immediately, shown on TV, and now we're entering the era of instant replay for high school kids. And some middle schools tape their games, which I find insane but when money and egos are on the line it's inevitable.

I shot our 7th, 8th and jv games when my kids were playing. I was there anyways, i'd burn it to cd and give to the coaches. Don't know if they ever reviewed them or not? I shoot several practices a year (at the coaches request). But that's all free to the team...the dvs system won't be. And again, how many cameras they gonna have at each venue? People to run them (our high school has a digital class that does it) and knowledge on "how" to shoot it? I asked the head coach here if we were going to participate and was told "not sure yet".

The harder I practice, the luckier I get.

It’s optional. And will be paid for by booster programs, (not school dollars)

Same way some schools in state have indoor practice facilities and others don’t.

They’re just regulating the system if you want to purchase it and use it. You have to use this system. Not Bubba in the pressbox with his iPhone

We talked to our HS coach today. He’s not planning to use it. He predicted 7A schools would adopt first.

If there was instant replay back in 1989 Winston County High School would have been 3A State Champs. Well nah.....those refs at Rogers cheated us so bad it wouldn't have mattered.

Most schools are videoing the games anyway. Most use a sideline view, and a end zone view. All this system does is allow a ref to view it on the field immediately. Basically like hudl does. The problem with the whole deal is that the refs aren't going to be able to tell if a runner was down or if a ball was caught in most situations. They will be using the same cameras that the coaches film with.

I don't think it's a good idea till everyone is using it.

Agreed that the videos the coaches use is wide angle stuff just to see the defenses and formations and stuff like that. It will be useless for reviews. Only the wealthiest of schools will be able to have a useful system. All in all, I think bad calls in high school ball, and I made my share when I officiated, will even out over the long run. It would be nice to get them all right, but that won't happen even with reviews. How often do we still see College or NFL refs blow it with review capability.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.
