What's the difference between a hamburger and a hamburger steak? Hamburger steak isn't a thing, up here, and they look the same in the pics on here.

Usually hamburger steak is cooked in gravy. At least that's how I do it.

This and usually contains onions in the gravy. On my post I grilled it and added grilled onions minus the gravy. I’m on a diet. smile

And it's usually larger than most hamburger patties.

I made one at the camp last year that was a single 1.5 pound patty. Filled up the skillet and had to use 2 spatulas to flip it over.

So, why isn't it called a hamburger with gravy? Also, what's the difference between a hamburger steak and salisbury steak?

Thanks guys. I do get it. Now I'm just trying to make sure MarksOutdoors gets no sleep at all. grin

Don't confuse them with a patty melt served openfaced

I thought Salisbury steak had some kind of tomato gravy on it?

None of the ones I've ever had did. I've always known it to have a brown gravy.

My brother gave me a pack of venison burger that has the Salisbury seasoning in it (made in Florida near his home) that is probably the best deer burger I have ever had. Not sure what the seasoning they used to call it Salisbury steak but it was fine. By the way , if you ever have the chance to eat Salisbury Steak in Indonesia, run like hell. Especially if it is spelled Salsberry.

The processor that we use near Arab makes venison Salisbury steak like this and it's off the chart good!

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

I honestly have never heard of folks actually making salisbury steak. My exposure has always been provided by the Swanson family. Served with mashed potatoes and corn, with apple crisp for dessert. grin
