I don't have a gen 2 but I've got got 2 gen 1 PST scopes. They are great scopes. The gen 2 moved the lighted reticle switch to the left side of the turret and have a wider magnification range.

My small PST is a 4-16x44. I have it on my .308 hunting rifle. I like it since it's not too big. It dials up and down and always returns to zero.
My bigger PST is a 6-24x50. It's heavy for a hunting scope, I have it mounted on my Ruger Precision Rifle. It dials and returns to zero also.
Again, these are both Gen 1 PST scopes, but I have no reason to believe the Gen 2 models would be any different.

If i was planning on spending that much coin for a rifle, it would be topped with a Nightforce or a Vortex razor if at all possible.

Yep I would save up for a little better glass for a Christensen. Maybe trade off or sell some stuff that's been sitting for a while. Best of luck and let us know what you get.

If you are setting up a target rifle, the Viper PST is a really good option. As said above, elevation dial works well and returns to zero accurately. I have owned and/or shot several.
For a hunting rifle, low light, the "Big 4" ( Swarovski, Schmidt-Bender, Zeiss, and Kahles) will all be brighter in the same objective diameter with a 30 mm tube. Don't be afraid to find a used scope from any of these. They all have a great warranty, and their 20 year old stuff is brighter than the new stuff made by others, including Nightforce.

But you can dial them up down and sideways and they ALWAYS return to zero and track correctly. Not to mention the glass is as clear as any Zeiss, Swaro, Khales and S&B ... That's what counts right?

All the Vipers I have ever seen were either Japan or The Philippines. Cheaper lines are made in China
Yea,I knew that was originally the case, but I had read recently where production was going to China. Personally,I would much prefer a Japanese made scope over China and likely wouldn't buy the China product. Might be something to check if it is a concern to anyone.

Last Viper pst i looked at was made in the Philippines, and so was the Nikon Black i ended up purchasing instead. It's not as fancy looking, but the glass was clearer imo and about $300 bucks less (at the time i purchased)

I own Vortex scopes, and have owned at least one each of the others you mention. Vortex is very good, but I don't perceive the Vortex to be as clear, nor do I perceive that it has the same low light performance. I'm talking about the last 5 and first 5 minutes of legal shooting light. The difference is not huge, but I do see a difference. I have also used a Nightforce, and I don't think it was as good either.

I have also used a Nightforce, and I don't think it was as good either. Yeah, I don't know why they call a Nightforce a Nightforce. It would be more accurate to call it a Broad Daylight Force...LOL I wasn't really referring to the first and last 5 minutes, since that's not when I am using them. At least not with the 6-24x50. The 4-16x44 allows me to see as well at that time as my Swaro, Ziess or Leupold did. I was shooting the Khales and S&B I was mentioned side by side with my PST the same day at the range. There was a marked difference as the two "higher end" scopes looked cloudy compared to the Vortex. The Swaro and Zeiss I owned prior to the Vortex were no more clear than it is. I know what they say about opinions, but that is simply mine from what I have personally witnessed.
