Any other golf fans fired up about this weekend? I always look forward to the Masters, but especially so this year. A lot of great story lines going into the tournament, and I feel like anybody could win it. Hopefully the weather cooperates.
Second greatest week of the year behind the opening week of college football.
US Open and The Open are tied for third.
No way to pick a winner until the last putt drops Sunday. Greg Norman was proof of that. Nicklaus was proof of that. Danny Friggin Willett was proof. One reason Sunday afternoon on the back 9 is the best.

I really enjoy it. I always played golf as a kid with my grandparents, and recently picked it back up. Its a tough game, but its a fun one to play and watch.
A BAD DAYS HUNTING OR FISHING IS BETTER THAN ANY DAY AT WORK
I've been on Saturday before. If you get a chance, go. It's one of those things I'll always remember. Plus, the food and drinks are super cheap, and delicious. MMMmmmmm thinking about a pimiento cheese sandwich right now.
Y'all can hate on Tiger all you want, but his return to golf is the best thing that could happen to the game right now. He may be a terrible person, but he's a heckuva competitor.
Watch it every year. Atleast the final round. Now that tigers back I'll definitely watch all four rounds. Only Tourneys I watch now is when he plays. He's my pick to win, along with Justin Thomas and Dustin Johnson. If he stays healthy. Through the year he will be back at world #1.
I'll be watching more of it than usual this year. Janet's daughter (who I love like my own child) is getting married Saturday in Pensacola. So while all the ladies are doing bridesmaid lunches and all that stuff, me and the guys will be in the hotel bar, or a bar somewhere, knocking some back and watching golf.

been decades since i played, but i have an interest in this tournament only. had a late aunt and uncle who maintained lifetime tickets, which maybe kept up my interest a bit. beautiful place, and well run. i'll keep up via the interwebs, at least ...

In fairness, all the good players intentionally get DQ’s by letting a child or girlfriend hit a putt for them
All in superstition of that no one has won par 3 and then won tournament
But it is great to see the old guys hitting it well
Amazing that Woods was listed as a potential winner. He's not been in the tourney since 2015, has played only five events this season and has not hit his driver consistently well in those events.
Given that placement is key at Augusta, having a balky driver isn't what a guy trying to regain his game needs. So we shall see.

Hope he continues this path for the rest of his life. Remarkable comeback from fusion surgery. With that said, hopefully he will make a few cuts and then finish last.

You want him to make the cut, but then finish last?
He's also one of the best match play players of this generation. He has dominated the Ryder Cup and Presidents cup the past couple of years. I'll always pull for the American rather than a euro guy
I haven't followed golf closely since tigers been gone. Now I watch a lot. I've seen bits and pieces of Reed, but there is some vibe he gives off that I just don't like. Apparently he's not well liked by many.
Heck of a tournament by Reed and solid finish to hold off the field. I thought for a while we'd have some playoff golf but solid finish. The ball sticking on the slope on 13 was huge, along with his putting.

Accused of cheating and stealing by former teammates at both UGA and Augusta State. He was kicked off the team at UGA but they never gave an official reason for his dismissal from the team, but where there's smoke, there's fire.

I dont know the guy from Adam, and like Jordan and Rickey much more. But, I thought it was innocent until proven guilty. Too much of guilt resides in the court of public opinion these days. Main problem with us these days. Forgotten we are a republic with habeus corpus.

This wasn't the court of public opinion. This was his teammates and coaches failing to actively disavow accusations of cheating. If you don't deny something like that in golf then it sticks. Reed had a cloud over him and it lingers for many.
As for the general golf public, a lot of them don't like him because of his attitude. Call it competitiveness, being an asshole or whatever, but it rubbed a lot of folks the wrong way and still does. He's incredibly talented, though, and is now a Masters champion.

Last I will post on it as it will ruin the thread if it goes further.
I agree with you everywhere Clem except where you say it was not public opinion. He was never proven to cheat or had to give uo any trophies that I can find. Like I said, dont know him from Adam but a little research tells me that. nothing was ever proven and no charges / violations / etc even officialy brought to NCAA, PGA, or That makes it public opinion, pretty much the definition of public opinion. He is an arrogant rascal for sure, but never a proven cheater.
If we go by the where there is smoke there is fire then Trump and the Clintons should be under the jail.
The cheating accusations were mostly about practice rounds, so there is no way to prove it. Also can't prove he stole from them but the accusations are there. He also totally disowned his family several years ago and it is generally assuned/accepted that his wife was the root of that whole thing. I'm guessing she's a money grubbing wench and wanted them out of the picture because they had her figured out. She once had them forcefully removed from a PGA tournament, by security, without explanation.
But all of the above aside, you don't develop a reputation as being one of the most disliked guys on tour without being a colossal tool, in general. That should tell you all you need to know.

Not golf in general, but The Masters on the other hand. It is special to many that are only loosely associated with golf.
I am just trying to prove a point that we bash people that we know nothing about except what we have read or heard, me included. Lately I have seen too many people that I know nearly destroyed but that very thing. Didn't mean to cause a ruckus.
I knew of Reeds history and all that, but after watching him compete on the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup teams, I grew to appreciate his competitiveness. He showed it again today to fend off the Spieth and Fowler charges. Haters gonna hate
He also has one of the most punchable faces on tour. Just looks like a smug douche.
It is widely reported that his teammates at Augusta State went over to his opponent Harris English at the finals of the college national championship one year and told him that they really wanted to win the match but that they hoped he beat the crap out of Patrick Reed. You have to be a pretty big douche for your own teammates to not pull for you in a match that could help them win the national championship.

Reed then went out and whooped English's arse and won his team the championship. I get it, he's not a likeable guy, but he's a winner
All his background stuff wouldn’t bother me near as much if he could find one former teammate that would come toward and defend him. But, every one of them has done the opposite and come out against him.
I agree with Doekiller. If only one of his former teammates at UGA or Augusta State came forward and said, "All that is bullchit, this is what happened, I was there, it was this or that" then it would help. But none have.
Good story from one of the best golf writers in the business right now.

Plus if he chose a woman over his momma and daddy he ain’t worth a chit. Never forget where you came from.

Who's to say is momma and daddy ain't worth a chit? They're the ones who raised him to be this guy everyone hates. If you will notice, most of the trouble from his past came from the time while he still associated with his family. Since he's been away from them, he seems to be more on the straight and narrow. Bottom line is, we don't know what is going on with Reed and his family issues and probably never will. The only side of the story that is being told is coming from his parents and sister though, so I would venture to guess what we have heard is skewed to their favor. At any rate, I'd say that it is even more impressive to accomplish what he has with all of this other background noise going on.
At issue with his parents, at least the supposed breaking point, was his impending marriage at age 22 to his current wife. They believed he was too young. He did not and the split ensued. Their efforts to reconcile or reach out have been well documented, as have his rejections.
What happened prior to that, only they probably know. As noted in that story, every family has its drama, demons, problems and dysfunction.

His wife has been very vocal in the past about his parents and the "abuse" he suffered from them. She said they were drunks who would physically abuse him if he did poorly in a golf tournament. His parents may be horrible or they may be great people. I really don't put much stock in that issue. A lot of people have family problems over the smallest issues that blow up into something much more.
The problems at Georgia and Augusta are where I see a problem with him. But, he was young, admittedly was drinking a lot, away from home the first time and made bad choices. Apparently, it took more than once getting caught to stop. I don't care if he is a dickhead. A ton of professional athletes are. Hopefully, he has put all his issues behind him and will have a good career.

They very well may not be. Either way I wish the young man well and hope he gets it all worked out before it’s to late.

They're probably just mad cuz he whooped their asses every time they played and they couldn't win sheeet cuz he was bringing it home every time.

If it was an isolated instance maybe. But everyone that has ever been a teammate anywhere with the guy will say nothing in defense of his character. In fact they seem to actively hate his guts. They will all acknowledge that he is a fine golfer of course. As for this being a case of collective jealousy, there have been a lot of talented golfers come up through the college ranks. I have never seen one more disliked by everyone in his wake than Reed. If the whole world thinks you are an as#$%e they may have a point. LOL!
