Steyr makes very good rifles and pistols. A little over priced IMO but they are very accurate and well made. I doubt you will hear anybody speak ill of them.

Look on Gunbroker.com. There's a BIG price jump from a blue/synthetic to a stainless/synthetic.

Check Marks. They have sales from time to time.

Excellent rifles.

Marks has the pro hunters for $699 in a bunch of calibers. I've got one in .243 and love it.

I went to Simmons with my son today to get a scope for his 7mm-08 Steyr Mountain Rifle. We bought two Swarovski Z3s in 3x10x42 and I mounted his for him this evening. We plan to shoot it Monday. My scope is going on my 7mm-08 when it gets built.
You can't go wrong with a Steyr of any model.

I've zeroed a few. They're an OK gun. The stock is flimsy and the bolt handle feels like it's about to fall off but accuracy is about that of Rem or Savage. Adequate.

Have no idea what they cost, but if it's more than $400-500.......it's too much.

Never shot one. Ya'll got my curiosity up. I hunt with a Sako Finnlight .308 and if they are a better mountain rifle than that,I don't know if I could stand it! Guess I'd have to have one.

The pro hunters stocks are a little soft for my liking as well, but as long as it shoots good I don't really care. The bolts lock very tight, I never felt like it was gonna fall off???
I chose my 243 Styer as a youth gun, its very light and well balanced. It has spacers in the stock to reduce the length of pull, detachable mag, and a 3 position safety.

Obviously this is his opinion but I own two Steyr and hunt with them exclusively. Stocks are pretty good. Not as good as a Bell and Carlson but good. The bolts on Steyr are some of the tightest I have ever seen. I oil mine pretty good to get it to slide like I like it. They are as accurate of a gun out of the box as you could hope to ever find. Mountain rifles are the ticket given the short barrel and performance.

I would check Mark's if I ws looking for another one, then Simmons.

I own 2 pro hunters - a stainless 20" mountain 308 topped with a Conquest 3.5-10X40 and a regular 24" barrel stainless 270 topped by a Leupold 3-10X50 . I bought two steyr wooden forestor stocks when CDNN had them for $100 each - I like the wood stocks better. Both are VERY accurate. I would buy another in a minute.

I'm not a fancy benchrest shooter that straps rifles down on a bench to where all I have to do is pull the trigger to fire 1/4" groupings. What I am is a hunter. And, what I can tell you from being "just a hunter", is that my Steyr is the most accurate rifle that I've ever shot straight out of the box. Plain and simple, the Steyr makes me a better shooter. Maybe it's all mental, maybe it's the gun, and maybe it's a combination of the two, but I personally shoot better groups from my Steyr than I do from all my other rifles...other than maybe my little Savage .17HMR.

The Steyr trigger, to me, is perfect straight out of the box.

Quite honestly, pretty much every other "hunter" that I know that shoots a Steyr has about the same opinion that I do.

Maybe it's just a cult thing, like iPhones. Who knows?

I can honestly say that my confidence is greater with the Steyr than anything else that I pull the trigger on.

I didnt think they were all that and a bag of chips either until I bought one. My 25-06 mountain rifle is dead nuts accurate and a joy to carry. Plan to buy one in .308 next year.

Same here. I kinda talked them down until I broke down and bought one. Totally different story now.
