The growing importance of the issue was on display on the Senate floor Wednesday, when new Senator Doug Jones -- the Alabama Democrat who took office after his surprise special-election win in December -- chose to speak on gun control in his first floor speech since taking office. Jones noted he’s a gun owner but called for a series of changes, including expanded background checks, a legislative ban on bump stock devices, a three-day waiting period for gun purchases, and raising the purchasing age for semi-automatic weapons to 21 years old.

"For too long, gridlock and partisanship have stood in the way of compromise," Jones said. "But I didn’t come here to do nothing, and I don’t think any of you did, either."

What about school reform with officers, reciprocity, and even plans on arming teachers? It's time to brainstorm and think out of the box, and USE COMMON SENSE.

All of that he discussed is just a crock of shite. If my daughter ends up being a single mom at age of 20 with a kid I want her to have the option if she wants to purchase something to protect themselves.

3 day wait periods are as useless as tits on a boar hog. It will not change a damn thing. More legislation for the legal owners.

I think there is currently a three waiting period for those who don't have a conceal carry permit.

I had to wait three days when I lived in FL.

There used to be years ago on handguns. Can't remember it ever being there on long guns.

Waiting periods, background checks, more regs on guns makes perfect sense because we already have the following:

Waiting period on Bible, newspaper, book purchases.
Enhanced background checks for news reporters, journalists, and media personalities before they can disseminate information.
Government authorization required BEFORE being to move freely and/or communicate with others.

There would be a mass explosion of rage and gnashing of teeth if the government ever tried to subdue other natural rights. Natural rights are already granted to us by God; not a piece of parchment or judicial opinion.
The right to self defense and pursuit of happiness that may include the ownership, carry and access to weapons, specifically guns, are in the cross hairs? Yes, because resistance at a distance is a threat to Progressives who do not want an armed public...they want sheep only. Because one day in their version of Utopia, the masses will be enslaved and will have no means of resistance to tyranny. You start with military grade weapons, add to the list as time and conditions allow, until you have a disarmed public at large.

According to the FBI Uniform Crime Reports: Knives or cutting weapons are used to kill roughly 3 times more people than long guns (rifles/shotguns) do each year. Not quite double are killed without weapons (beating, chocking, etc...). But the major emphasis right now is control of rifles. Increased range and round capacity is a threat per Progressives. That is why these are targets, and not edged weapons.
