It may have been posted on here, cant remember where I saw it, but it seems that everyone that has hogs don't want them and everyone that doesn't have them want them. Having said that it seems like these things have now become almost like an epidemic. Why are people charging an arm and a leg to kill them? I know the opportunity is there to make money but why not let folks hunt these things at reasonable prices. I was looking for somewhere to take my son and try to get one but geez I am seeing 500+ bucks for a hunt.

I am surprised there are none at my club. we seem to have them all around us. We are about 30 min from Oakmulgee and I know they have em.

Anyone know of a place to go for cheap

EVERYBODY LOVES TO TALK THE TALK!!! Landowners have figured out that they can pad their pockets by charging people to hunt them and the more the media and outdoor channel paint the picture of hogs taking over the more people want to hunt them. Im going to say that 80% of Alabama or better doesn't have a huntable population of hogs. People that have never seen a hog in the woods talk about the damages done by hogs off what they hear from the guys selling special ammunition for hogs on tv. Its pretty obvious that hogs are not as big of a problem to landowners as they are to deer hunters and farmers.

PM me and we will work out something to put you and your son on some hogs after turkey season.

The epidemic thing may or may not be overhyped but they are an issue. Folks are charging $$$$ because folks are willing to pay it...simple! Where guys with dogs used to be invited to come as often as they would, they are losing access because it is fun to hunt them. I see this trend reversing in about 2-3 years when they have become overrun with the heathens. They are a very renewable resource! Notice if you are ever watching hunting shows that they almost NEVER shoot sows...only the TROPHY STINKING BOARS. And the reason why....because sows make babies and as long as you don't shoot too many you have a ready-made supply of boars to shoot.
To make hunting them at night viable as a business they also have to fork out big bucks on night vision equipment, liability insurance, etc. As a charter fisherman I identify because even though I am an inshore guy and don't incur the expenses offshore guys do, I know I have around 40 days of trips to break even on a normal year.
So if your boy can shoot, just call Elkhunter (he should be along shortly!^^^)....and maybe he won't charge extra if you kill a bunch! LOL

Your HVAC guy charges you $500 for a service call, you drop a grand on tires.... your plumber, your car mechanic, your doctor, all gouge you for hundreds. You write him the check and don't even get to smile about it. Look at like this...it will be a memory you will always share and you will get to spend time with your son and probably take home a cooler of meat to boot. That's money well spent!

Very well put. Thank you both for the info. I am mainly trying to get him more hyped up about hunting he is 9 and goes deer hunting a few times but figured if could get him on something a little more fast paced or adventurous he may take a liking to it more.

We have about 4,000 acres leased and it is rare we see any hog tracks, even tho they are regularly seen within a mile of our properties.

I'm in a 2300 acre club 3 crow miles from my house. We killed 2-5 hogs each year last 5 years. Before that we didn't have any. My house sits on the 40 acres that I own. Over the past 10 years, I have killed as many as 27 off that 40 acres in one year... probably 15 have been shot within 50 yards of the house...several under the bird feeders very close to the house(I guess they couldn't read!). They are at seemingly the lowest population now since they showed up due to extensive pressure surrounding landowners from Night vision hunting, trapping, hunting with dogs and of course, hunting them the regular way.
It's bad when the mess up a food plot or tear up roads but when the heathens turn your garden (that's 25 yards from the kitchen window) upside down that will plum get under your skin.
There simply is no rhyme nor reason why they don't show on some property like Timbercruiser. Simply unexplainable.

A hog is very finicky about some things. i have a buddy that has some family land ( 540 acres ) right on the tombigbee and 3/4 of the property has hogs and the other 1/4 doesnt. They plant chuffas on the part that doesnt and never have a problem with hogs getting in them. the only thing separating the two is a creek and a old sandy road bed that runs close to the creek. Only thing i can figure is they dont like that change in soil from river bottom to a sandy pine thicket.

Place almost exactly like that close to Bowlings Lake where I used to hunt. Forever Bull Pen always had them. Nothing but Bassett's Creek separated us and we finally got them in the prolonged flood of 95 I think. Downhill from there.
