From what online research that I've done, it seems that the leg cramps that I've been having lately are pretty common. A couple of months ago I started having BAD cramps in my extreme lower leg (usually on the outside just above the ankle) and the outside of my foot. It always randomly happens between 2AM and daylight. If I feel it coming on I can bail out of bed and stand up with all my weight on the foot, or feet if it's both at the same time, and somewhat head it off. Other times it wakes me up in full blown cramp mode. About half the time it hits both feet and legs at the same time. It causes my feet to point straight down in tip toe position and locks up like that. Sometimes it's over in a few seconds and other times it can take a half hour to get relief thru walking and forcing the foot/feet to bend at my ankles.
There's not much info on the web as far as getting relief. I'm absolutely hydrated as I drink at least 8 bottles of water during the day and a couple late in the evening. Any of y'all experiencing this or have a history with it? If so, do you have any remedies?
I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

I have the same problems at times, I have no relief other than what you already do.
Getting old sucks.

I have the same problem, make sure you drink a lot of water, and stretch 3-4 times a day... This helps me a good bit.

Any of y'all experiencing this or have a history with it? If so, do you have any remedies? I feel your pain but I have found relief. There are OTC pill available called 'Leg Cramps' and I think the primary ingredient is magnesium. I started taking these everyday a couple years ago and they have almost completely eliminated my leg cramps. Give these a try and I hope you find relief.

If you take a cholesterol pill this could be the cause. Need to have your electrolytes checked.

It won't prevent it but keep a pack of mustard by the bed. If you get a cramp, eat the mustard. Instant relief.

Tonic Water with Quinine. Drink 4-5 oz each night before bed.
Your welcome

Your welcome This is what I have used as a last resort for leg cramps. It does work but extremely hard to get insurance to pay for
