What is the best bicycle to use on public land? Are electric models ok to use or are the excluded like other motorized vehicles from WMAs?

On federal land they have to be 750 watts and under to avoid being classified as a vehicle. Not sure on state land. For that matter, I don't know how they would go about checking. There are a lot of them out there and it's a developing market. I've looked into it, but not purchased one. They are a cool concept if you can outfit them with a the ability to carry your gear. Ready to hunt brands include Rambo and Quietkat. If you want more do it yourself and save some money check out Luna Cycles

The Rambo and QuietKat have trailers available I think. You might could retrofit one to these. I never looked into it deep enough though.

I considered buying a fattire bike but not a powered one. I read some reviews and there are half decent ones for like 250$

I recently did a remote hunt where folks camped and used bikes. Many folks bought the fat tire bikes for the sandy roads, but almost all of them said they were terrible for any hills because of the weight of the tires, rolling mass, etc.

Thought the fat tire bike was a good idea, bought one, sold it. No good on hills!

I thought about using my mountain bike to bow hunt last year. I tested it a few times to check cameras with. I was a sweaty mess on both occasions when I got back to the truck. I'll walk before I do that again.

Back in the day on Wheeler Refuge we used plain old $100 10-speed mountain bikes with converted kid wagons as a trailers to haul our gear in and out and deer if anyone killed something. Now mind you, where we hunted on the Refuge was mostly flat land with minimal hills to climb, but it was an efficient way to get 1-2 miles away from the truck in just a few minutes. Sportsman's Guide now has a specific bike trailer listed for hauling in hunting gear.

I always rode in with street clothes on and wiped down and changed into hunting clothes once I got to where we parked the bikes. You'll get sweaty no doubt.

Mountain bike, yes. Fat tire bike,no. There are some that are both, but I think the fat tires are for snow. I've used a mtn bike to turkey hunt off of. It's great until later in the season when it's hot.

That's not a bad tactic. I know if I was walking thru the wood before daylight and a big guy in his skimpys came cruising by he would have them wood to himself. Probly from now on.

I’ve got a Rambo 1000watt version. I really like it. Hunted one full deer season with it and 3 days turkey hunting.

We hunt elk off mountain bikes. You can grab a kid cart at a garage sale and haul your gear.

Gotta be careful about giving away all our secrets here, but for the past 4 years I've used an adult scooter (think it's a Turbo Electric on the brand). On flat ground, it will travel around 20 mph with a weight limit of 250 lbs. It doesn't do well with steeper hills, but it's well worth it to use even in the hills because if you're going downhill, you can travel 10 times faster to get a bird/stand than simply by walking (you usually can drive in after the hunt and pick it up). It folds up and I can throw it in the back of my truck fairly easily and the charge lasts all day. The reason I went with the scooter??? Price - getting the best battery pack available I was only out around $600 - a far cry from some of the prices for these motorized bikes.

I had a buddy growing up who had an electric motor installed on his mountain bike for just riding around the neighborhood. It was pretty strong from what I can remember. There’s kits online to convert any bike to an electric powered one
