It's mostly 2 year olds that make that mistake. As they get older they are just like we are and realize if you go looking for a mate in the dark (or dimly lit bar) , you usually wake up to an old buzzard instead of the hen you were after.

Good question Ozarktroutbum.
Whildbill, I need your help. I have a PBT that’s been roosting in a hollow den tree. You have to be very close to hear him gobbling inside the tree. You never know when he is gonna fly out of the hole at the top of the tree. No warning at all, just a black blur when he comes out like a rocket and he peeks out of the hole and won’t fly out if you are in range to shoot him. What should I do? The landowner won’t let me cut the tree down and I’ve sat there til dark waiting on him to go to roost but he just roosted in another den tree a quarter mile away!

How do you hunt a PBT when he goes nocturnal? Seems like that would work. Also start him cooking and a prescribed burn on wet leaves.
