Kicked the season off right this weekend. My oldest son has killed 2 in KY the past two years, but this is his first in AL. He was wanting that first AL bird, and got it done Saturday morning.

Next year I’m not signing up until the teams come up short and someone is needed. Worked out good for ya’ll.

Congrats on the young man's turkey. My daughter and I only heard 1 Saturday and he was a long way off. Hopefully she'll get one in Tn on youth weekend. I'm headed to Ms to hunt Thursday and Friday.

I'm still waiting for our close season to open march 31. Can't get 3 hrs away to hunt with work til we get a good rain out.

Well, I missed one this morning with my 410. Back in the cabinet for that thing till I put some more on the ground. Turkey worked good right off the roost. Shot at him at 6:55 standing within 5 yards of where I figured he'd show up.

I hear ya - at least he came and was acting right. That’s good to hear.

The couple places I hunt are really slow right now - it’s been a grind for sure. Had a good opportunity opening morning, but couldn’t close the deal. Hadn’t found a workable bird since. Just gonna stay after it.

Got it done again this morning with TurkeyJoe. He killed a nice one that we called in straight out the tree to the gun. Turkey flew down in a log landing about 80 yards from us and started up the hill. I hit him with some real soft nasally helps and he went in to full strut. He drummed and went back and forth a few times, then broke into a walk straight to us. Joe piled him up at about 40 steps. Was back home in time to take my middle daughter to school and then to a picnic.Good Lord blessed us with a beautiful day.

I haven't been yet but I will be going this weekend but I'll have my son as the shooter. Maybe we can double up.

I am going to Kansas in April for an archery hunt and I should be able to get one or two on the board here in Bama as well.

Finally killed one this morning. Still not much gobbling. Maybe things start heating up around here soon. I’ll get him posted on the contest thread later. He’s a skinny little ridge running south AL turkey. I guess I need some official aldeer turkey contest scales to kill one over 20 lbs!

Glad you got one. I need to get some of those scales you speak of. I have a feeling if bama went to certified check stations you'd see a thread about how the weights sure used to be heavier.

Very lil gobbling past 2 days at my place. I'm gonna take some time off and let them do their thing.

Killed a 2 year old this morning. Won’t score great, but it’s points. Four lonely two year olds came to me silent while I was prospecting, only 3 left!

Glad you got another one. I'm gonna get to hunting again next week. Kids are on spring break so I'm spending time with them. I'll start my out of state trips a week from Monday.

Guys I’m having a bad year . Hunted hard all week had 3 in range and something went wrong all three times. I did call up one for my 7 yr old nephew Friday morning and he got his first turkey. I’ll try and help the team before the year is out but I’m limited on time I have left now.

I killed another one but I'm not gonna post it yet. It only scored in the low 50's and I should have upgrades before season is out.

Nice. I hope to reduce the population a bit more in next few days.

Killed another river hills ridge runner this morning. Them hills been hard on him, he had lost a toe at some point. I’ll get him posted up later. Probably gonna shut it down at our primary hunting tract - just hadn’t seen the activity we normally see. Except to try to get my 9 year old another one before the seasons out. I hope to get an upgrade in KY, though.

I went listening this morning and heard more gobbling on roost than I’ve heard all year. It’s usually getting quiet around here this time of year. I’ll be in KY at some point over the weekend and into next week - looking for an upgrade or two!

I’m a terrible team mate. I’ve only been twice here in Bama all season. I almost closed on one the first day but a jake messed me up. The next time I went I was guiding a guy.

I just got back from Kansas last night from a bow hunt. I struck out due to 30+ mph sustained winds and 35 deg temps. My son did kill his two birds and one was beautiful double beard Rio.

Maybe I’ll get a chance to go again before season is out.

I got more points this morning. Will hold for later.

I took a quick trip to KY and had awful weather. Last morning of the hunt, yesterday morning, the weather broke and I had 5 strutters at 40 steps - my Apex shell mis-fired and blew out fire and smoke. They all took off and I headed home. I thought it was something that would never happen to me, but it did. Apex is sending my money back!

I hate that happened to you. That's why I load my own shells, but truthfully, it may not be their fault. When I first started loading tss I had a batch of wads and hulls that just did not have enough gas seal, even though everyone else was using the exact same load mine would shoot unburnt powder and shot.

A friend of friend just blew a hole in his barrel shooting an Apex shell.

I'm loading 2oz 9's in my current tss loads. Knock on wood it's been lethal. I never had issues with the 1 5/8 oz load tho either.

Iv'e been loading a 1 5/8 in mine. I like an oz of 9s and 5/8 oz 7.5s. Shoots a wicked pattern with the factory full in my M2.

The carlsons .555 tss choke out of my M2 barreled M1 is like yours lectrode. It's wicked

It is. Shooting it out of Benelli M1 barreled to M2. 2oz 9's. Trimmed the hulls and they barely eject/feed but they do.

I shot Hal's MOA load but I'm worried about the recoil effects on my gun. I'm currently shooting an 1 5/8 load that I really like.

If I had a pump, or gun other than an auto I'd be shooting that 2 1/8 oz MOA for sure. It's bad.

I'm fixing to buy stuff to load an 1 3/4 16 gauge load.

I killed 2 in Texas with my Franchi at 50+ yards. I saw 2 get killed at 70 with a 20 gauge Benelli shooting 1 5/8 #9's

257 if you ever decide to try this turkey hunting thing, you'll already have a gun to hunt with.
