Anyone have a team name preference?

I don't. I just want to kill turkeys.

Y'all have been handicapped by my presence. I'm not very good at calling turkeys but I can ambush one every now and then. For the past four or five years our mill has scheduled the annual three week outage for opening week of turkey season. This year it starts on the 31st. Maybe I can get out there and kill one before all the stupid ones are gone.

Texas and Louisiana. I have some land in MS and will hunt a few times there too

Sounds like a good time BD. Since I live on the state line I went ahead and leased some land in Georgia this year and making a trip to kentucky in late April.

How about Beard Busters for a name?

I’ll be going to OK and possibly KS. Ive been hitting up TX the last couple of years but I’m going to try something different. TX has been very good to me. Beard busters is fine.

Well we got one this morning for a friend's son. Never gobbled but came running.

Didn’t hear a bird this morning and had to be here in court by 9:00. Maybe some of y’all will get one.

Only heard 1 gobble this morning and it was way off. Will be back after them tomorrow.

I put us on the board. 22 lbs 12 oz, 15/16” spurs and little 5.5” beard. How the heck do I post pics? What’s the official process?

We were on a promising one this morning and a dog ran through between us barking and shut him up. A little later we had a couple jakes come in. We left and got to another spot and worked one to about 70 yards or so but he had a pile of hens with him and they didn't want to come any closer. Back to work tomorrow but I think I have a decent plan for the last bird sat morning.

Reckon it worked.

This bird didn’t start gobbling until nearly 9 o’clock. Didn’t take long to get him in after I started calling to him. I pulled the trigger at 9:15. He’s the heaviest bird I’ve ever killed at 22 lbs 12 oz on a digital scale. My other scale said 23 lbs 4 oz but I think that was a little high. He had 15/16” spurs on both sides and I got one strand of beard to 5.5”. Doesn’t appear to have beard rot. Just don’t have much there. Tickled to start the season off right. Was a great hunt.

Congratulations Mbrock. I plan on going in the morning. I've got a couple that are coming out in my food plot and I'm gonna ambush them with my bow.

Heard two. One was on fire but he henned up real good about 8:00 and lost interest. I had to go.

I didn't hear anything this morning but I did see five hens. One of them had about a seven inch beard. She almost got shot before I realized it was a hen.

Silence again this morning. Changing counties for the weekend

Didn't see or hear anything this afternoon. Looks like rain for the next few days and then I have to go back to work. Maybe I'll get one next week.

Supposed to be a break in the rain in the AM. Gonna try once again.

Good luck guys. I heard one yesterday morning, got after him and he was across a big creek. While trying to find a route to approach him from the other side of the creek I ran into a couple of older gentlemen (early 70’s) in my club that informed me I had been piddlin on the adjoining club! They thought it was hilarious. This is my first year in the club and I didn’t even know that I was anywhere close to a property line.
Anyhow, I’m back this morning and maybe I’ll find one on our property this morning.

I did find 2 arrowheads in a food plot on the adjoining club.

Well I put one down a minute ago. Fine 2yo, pics in a bit. After one for a buddy for a bit

Well, he got a little stiff and wet before I got any pictures taken. It was a great hunt and we managed to pull it off right before a thunderstorm rolled in. He weighed just over 17 has a 7 inch beard and sharp 1 inch spurs. Not the biggest turkey, but he sure was fun!

Well, we were close again but the hens won. They stayed in the trees until about 830 with hens roosted tight to them. I thought once or twice I'd convinced one to break and come but in the end the hens went down the hill taking all 3 with them.

And so goes another day in the turkey woods. Story of my life.

For sure, but man it sure is fun lol. I was just kinda surprised we had them gobbling this morning.

I stopped by a greenfield back behind my house this evening to check a camera and had these two decide to check me out. I leaned up against a tree in khakis and a black t-shirt and they stayed for about 5 minutes just standing there. Maybe they'll be this dumb next year.

Almost put another in the bag this am. Always tomorrow.

Found some birds on my new lease yesterday, but had to leave and get to court. Went back this morning and didn’t hear a gobble.

Bet we hunt closer than you think Lonster.

I got one this afternoon. I’m gonna go back in the morning and see if I can get his buddy.

I was really close on number 2 this morning. One of the best gobbling birds I've ever hunted. I'd decided to try a spot out on some of the NF and it almost paid off. He came straight in off the roost bit 2 hens came down the road and cut him off. He got to about 75 yards and prob within shooting distance behind me but I was pinned down. He fired back up about 35 minutes later and I had him under 100 2 more times but he just wouldn't commit. I had to leave him still gobbling at 11:15.

Georgia opens tomorrow and I have a big lease that I know has a bunch of birds but really considering going back after that one again.

Maybe not. I hunt all over Fayette and eastern Lamar.

Well I somehow managed to miss one at 8 steps this morning. No clue as to why I didn't aim down toward the body more but it went right over his head. I'd put a new red dot on and was good at 20 and 40 but it definitely went high. They gobbled good even after the monsoon right at daylight. It sure sucks to get soaking wet, find a hot bird anyway and then watch him run off.

I’ve missed several inside 10 yards. Stay after them!

I hunt in Hell’s Creek Hunting Club in Lamar County. I hunt private properties in Fayette County.

Then we hunt VERY close if you hunt in Hell’s Creek.

I thought I had bird #2 this morning but it just didn’t work out. He didn’t start gobbling until 8:00 and gobbled good until after 10:00. He kept walking past my blind one way and then back the other going almost out of hearing each time but wouldn’t come out. I decided to leave the blind and go to where he had been to see if I could cut him off if he came back. It almost worked but he hung up about 50 yards out and it was just to thick to try a shot. He was gobbling at just about every sound that I made. I had one of those tree umbrellas that I was using for a blind but I’m gonna have to find something better than that. Bowhunting these birds is tough. How can something with a brain the size of a marble be so damn hard to kill.

I’ll be at Hell’s Creek in the morning before court.

Go get em. I called one in this morning for a friend just down the road and my stupid self sabotaged the kill. I spooked the bird right before he was about to die. The wind and terrain had my sense of where he was all jacked up I guess and I made a move at a very bad time when I thought the bird was farther than he actually was. As has been learned over and over again in the turkey woods, when in doubt, stay your butt there.

I'll be on a different property in the morning in Lamar County but still not too far. .

Congratulations on the kills guys. I had one come by me and then go back by me gobbling his head off. He never got close enough that I could see him. He’s gonna mess up one day and give me a shot.

Well It's been a tough week for gobbling on the ground. We've heard a ton of birds in the trees but only a gobble or two apiece and maybe once on the ground. This lease is usually pretty good the first few weeks but they've been really henned up since the get go there. Maybe next week will get better.

They’re still henned up everywhere. The best part of the season is still ahead of us.

I just came close. Gotta go to work. Bird gobbled one time on the roost and pitched out coming to me. Two hens pitched out in between us and you know the rest.

You’ve been quite the murderer yourself. I’ll post stories when I wrap up. Probably won’t hear another bird the rest of the season now.

The turkeys on my 60 acre lease seem to have left. They do it to me every year about the second or third week of season. There’s some cow pastures back to the south and they go that direction. So I’m gonna try something new this morning and go hunt some corp of engineers property. I’ve seen turkey sign there while deer hunting but I’ve never turkey hunted it. Maybe I’ll get lucky who knows.

#2 down! Played chess with this joker from daylight til 11:45 this morning. Luckily he gave up first. I had about 15 minutes left before I had to go.

I thought I was going to close out the season this am but a pack of dogs felt like running deer and rabbits all over the lease was more important than me killing a turkey. Had one coming in but it was abruptly stopped.

We are team 11 and ranked 11. Way to be consistent guys!

I'd been hunting these birds for the last 4 times I've been able to go and have been so close but just hadnt been in very good positions. I had one at 25 yards yesterday but just needed 1 more step to clear the brush. He smelled a rat and that was that. I waited to see which creek bottom they'd pick when they left the roost this morning and then made a big loop back up the road to get out in front of them. It wound up working perfectly since they'd lost the hens along the way.

Dang what a season. The Lord has blessed me with some great hunts and memories. I was able to wrap it up on a bird this morning that never said a word. He ran to my hen decoy as hard as he could when he saw her.

Congrats on the kills everyone. I have been after them hard, but haven’t had much luck. Have only had one day of decent gobbling. Hopefully I can get at least one here and going to Texas in early May.

Well, these birds have slap kicked mu butt this weekend. I've not had trouble getting on them but have had 3 hang up just out of range. The last one today stood at about 70 and strutted and gobbled for about an hour. Maybe things will turn around Tuesday morning.

#3 down! Took the wife and kid to visit my sister this weekend. My bro in law isn’t a turkey hunter but got us permission to hunt a couple spots close to their house. Got soaked Saturday but heard some gobbling and saw several birds. Went back this morning and had a stud fly down right in our lap but never could get a shot because his hen was already there and had me pinned down. Let them walk off and ended up running into another bird while trying to cut the first one off. He was soaking wet and pretty ratty looking but I’ll take it. Man I love this stuff!

#4 down....lucky in Kentucky! Sat in the rain all morning but found one willing to play the game this evening.

Congrats man! We came to Kentucky and were supposed to be at a friends place but something came up and we wound up at the land between the lakes. Seems to be a bunch of birds but they're not saying much.

My lease is just north of Cadiz and east of lbl. There were 7 guys hunting 3000 acres and we had 2 birds killed bet sat and sun. Weather didn’t help but we didnt hear many gobbles either. Saw hens everywhere I went but nothing in tow.

Yeah, really hoping they act right tomorrow. We were at pennyrile this morning but left and came here about 9. There seems to be a lot more birds here. We found a couple likely spots for in the morning that are scratched to death. I've never seen as many deer as I have here today lol. We saw a bird strutting in the middle of about 10 deer at 7:29 by the interstate tonight.

Guys I’ve been away from aldeer but I’ve been hunting. I’ll post pics and info in a few days.

Getting my butt handed to me in OK. 2.5 days and nothing yet. Called in one that was about to get shot but a hen spooked at the decoys. Most of the birds I’m hearing are off property I can hunt.

I’m returning from 4.5 days in OK with all three tags unfilled. I don’t of anyone else who can accomplish that.

Happened to me in Texas last year. Given your AL limit, I would say your even! Just kidding, I know it is tough.

Just got back from Oklahoma myself. Thought I was gonna head home with a few tags in my pocket but ended up connecting on one Friday evening. It was the only time in my turkey hunting career that I felt guilty about shooting. My buddy and I had been sitting there for a few hours when we finally had some birds gobbling and heading our way. Neither one of us had filled a tag yet and only needed a few more steps to try for a double. I was lined up on the first one just waiting on the word that he had a shot on the second one. The first one got nervous and was about to bolt so I had to shoot or watch them both head out.

Congrats! Those are such nice birds. It was very tough hunting where we were. Only had one bird that responded to calling the entire trip and he stayed on private ground that we couldn’t hunt.

Awesome! I just rolled into Kentucky a couple hours ago. Sitting off of a green field this evening just hoping to hear one fly up.

Ended up tagging out in Kentucky. Had a great season but I hate to see it go. Time to get back to work and spend time with wife and kids. Enjoyed it fellas! Til next year!

Well I got one in georgia this morning. It's been tough sledding up here. Hear tons of birds but they've still had hens roosted with them every day and haven't been in a very cooperating mood at all.
