Just bought a new bow ... 8 shots in, the Ripcord rest failed. Evidently not falling away right. Is this a common problem?

The timing is not right. Meaning the string that triggers the rest is not tight enough or to tight . When you draw back you should see the rest pick up just a little right at the end of the draw cycle. If it picks up to soon it will not be out of the way when the fletchings get there. If it's not picking up at all then the rest is not set to drop causing the fletchings to hit. Either way you're gonna need a new launcher arm.

Thanks sluggun. This is the rest that came with the bow new, so hopefully they will cover it under warranty and it won't be an ordeal to get repaired.

BTW this is the Bowtech Carbon Icon DLX model.

I agree with sluggun. That rest definitely wasn't timed right. It's also clamped into the cable at the wrong place. It should've been much lower on the cable, usually somewhere around the bottom of the grip is a good place to start. Side note: using a press to split cable and tie in the rest cord is a better option than the football clamp.

Thanks BCLC. That's good input for me (I'm new to bows). The way you see it was the way I saw them pull it out of the plastic bag from the box, so I'm assuming it came from the factory that way. Hopefully the shop will work with me on this since it failed the first time out I shot it.

Yep, whoever set the bow up failed, not the rest. The launcher just needs to be replaced and then timed correctly. Ripcord will make good on the launcher.

And aside from the disappointment of this rest failing .... here's something positive ... a pic of my new bow. As long as I can get the rest up and running I'll be happy with it. Decent package components (Ripcord rest, Tightspot quiver, Black Gold sight, Octane stab) Very light (bare bow 3.2 lbs) and seems to be hard hitting at the 71lb/29" draw setting it's on now. Pulling arrows out of the target is certainly a chore

I bet you wasn't hitting worth a damn though. Check your fletchings and make sure you didn't loosen any of them.

Oh, it was frustrating! I was trying to sight in at 20 and it was hitting very low. Moved the sight body almost all the way down off the dovetail, and it was still low. Moved the 20 pin down into the lower half of the sight body and that's when it broke. I just now noticed a handful of the arrows have red stripes on two vanes and 3 of the arrows have loose vanes.

If it's a Reinhardt style hard foam/rubber target and carbon arrows I like to rub a bar of plain ivory soap on the last 10-12in of arrow. Makes pulling from stiff targets super easy thumbup

Nice looking rig, good luck with it

Take the arrows back with the bow and make them fix them also.

It's hard to tell in those pictures but the arrow rest should be set to where the arrow is center of the berger hole on the riser. Doesn't look like it is but it's hard to tell from the picture. Those package bows a lot of times come with accessories just thrown on and you need a good bow tech making sure it's tuned and everything is tight before you leave the store with it. As others have said get rid of the black ball and run the rest string through the bus cable. Also tie a serving above it so that it can't slide up the cable over time.

10-4. I just got the bow out to check it. It's actually pretty close or exactly at the Berger holes in the "thumb cocked position". I now notice that the rest does not move positions when at full draw which I guess it's supposed to if the cord is properly positioned. So, when they fix the rest I'll also make note of any change in arrow elevation once the rest is in the true ready-to-fire position. I'm also going to ask them about checking the nock position to see if it's exactly where it's supposed to be.

Thanks for the tips as I'm completely new to this stuff. Maybe I can get it tuned up by Fall haha

I'm guessing the rest not hitting that rubber but, peel it off. Also, you'll like the bow, I have an icon and it shoots well. I'm getting pass throughs on elk so, you ill wax a seers hiney.

Bow is fixed! It was exactly what y’all said. The football thing was loose, you could slide it by fingers up and down the string. It came from factory like that. It’s properly attached through the cable itself now, and I have a new launcher arm. Bow groups much better now, haha. Quieter too, ha

Glad it was so simple. You need to add a piece of serving above the "football" and it will not slide.

It’s actually inserted through the cable itself with serving to hold it now. No football.
