The first time I can remember seeing a deer track was around 1956 between Florala and Opp on the ole Jackson Lumber company land, later Rayonier and now I think Hancock . My daddy was working down there and there was an old home place back in the woods with a smokehouse nearby. The deer were using the smokehouse as a salt lick and there were some tracks around it. In Pike county where I was raised I remember a few locals had a small dog hunting club around 1966 near our home.

I was telling my son the other day that he has seen more deer in his first 8 years of life than I saw in my first 35.
