My father in law sent my wife to the parts store when she was 16 to get some and she went and ask for it and the guy at store said “honey he’s got you good this time” I still pick at her about it and she never thinks it’s as funny as I do

We used to send all the new guys for board/bar stretchers.

The summer help, of which I was one, at the IP saw mill, back then it was Hammermill, were always sent on wild goose chases for the blue lumber stretcher with instructions not to come back with the red one. Of course every department they went to lent it to another department the prior day, or they had the red one but had not seen the blue one. I was fortunate enough to have heard my father and uncle laugh about it enough to not fall for it.
The especially gullible guys were sent after left handed monkey wrenches.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

When I was an electrician helper on construction I had a journeyman electrician send me after a conduit stretcher. I brought him the conduit bender. He laughed and said that ain't a stretcher. So I took a piece of pipe and measured it. Then I bent a 90 on one end. Then I laid it on the floor and measured from the floor to the top of the short side of the 90 and then did the same on the long side. I told him to add the two measurements together which ends up being more than what the pipe measured to begin with. He just stood there scratching his head. He was to stupid to figure out how to measure the pipe around the 90. We would also send the green helpers after amp oil or a bucket of ohms.

Daddy had a used car lot in Anniston back in the 70s' and 80's. My older brother had sold a car to a lady and before she drove off she asked if the oil was ok. My brother told her "Yes Ma'am, The oil is new and full, the battery is good, the brake fluid is full, the radiator has plenty of antifreeze and water, the transmission fluid is good, the rear end dope is fine, the windshield washer fluid is full, and the air conditioner is fully charged. If there is any problem at all, the air in the tires may be a little stale." He was making a joke with the last part obviously but the lady pulled next door to a service/filling station and asked the attendant to change the air in the tires for her.
My brother and myself got a kick out of sending a new clean-up guy up town to get a radiator for a 71 Volkswagen Beetle. He went all over the county looking for one and finally returned without it. Daddy didn't think it was very funny.
