What can be done legally to bait and shoot hogs? Do I need a permit or not to shoot over corn?

You have to have permit to hunt hogs over bait

I see people asking this question a lot. I’m not saying to go break the law but if you are sitting over a feeder with hog sign around it on private property and by rare chance a game warden walks up I highly doubt he will write you a ticket unless you have a shotgun loaded with turkey shot. Lol

I'd be shocked if a person didn't get a ticket for that. He'd probably argue you're hunting deer, over corn, out of season. Would be hard to defend.

Back in the day I had opps where I checked a hunter in a shooting house on a greenfield in early Feb. We both knew he was deer hunting but I could not prove he wasn't trying to kill a yote. But he did get the message I was out and looking. If an outlaw isn't thinking about where you are, then you ain't doing your job well enough. A little scaredofgettingcaught goes a long way.

I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

Not to sidetrack things, but this IMO is one reason GameCheck has major issues and low compliance. No one is worried about any repercussions of loading a deer or turkey, hauling it home and ignoring GC.

As far as hogs and bait, IMO it's idiotic to have to get a permit to do this when these animals need to die. What does a permit for hogs with bait (or coyotes at night with a light or thermal) really do for the hunter and DCNR?

I agree with you. I’d like to hunt hogs over bait at our club after deer season, but getting the landowner To obtain permits might be an ordeal. I’d sure be nice to just run down and do it.

Just put the feed out and shoot the hogs. They're a nuisance according to the state.
