I want to mount a 56mm scope on my new to me pro hunter. Will I need high mounts or can I get away with medium mounts? It has a 30 mm tube if that matters.

Probably going to depend on what brand you go with.
I'm almost positive that I use medium Warne's on my Pro Hunters with 56mm objectives, but I'd have to check to be sure.

Have you tried Google?

I have a 50mm with 1" tube and It sits in medium rings with just enough bell clearance to put a thin scope cap on it. Mine has a swing hammer and no issues cocking it.

I might have a Talley 30mm High at home. That’s what you’d need if you go with a Talley base/rings.
If you are interested I’ll check tonight and let you know.

The way to know for sure is to measure the OD if the objective end of the scope and subtract the tube diameter. Then divide the number you come up with by 2. This will tell you the minimum height you need to clear a flat surface. The taper of the sporter barrel will allow a shorter ring/base combo depending on the contour.
You can usually find ring specs on the manufacturers website. Just make sure to determine whether the measure to the bottom of the ring or the center.

If the difference between the OD of the OBJ and the OD of the tube is on 13mm then you could get away with lows. Keep in mind though, a 56mm OBJ lens will have about a 60mm OD around outside of the tube. Even bigger if you have an AO
