Spent some time at Cedar Creek today and came away empty handed. It was my first time fishing the lake, but I had read that it produced a decent number of crappie and bass. My son and I targeted crappie, and as mentioned before, we didn't get so much as a bite. I know that the water was extremely murky today, and I'm sure it was a factor. Does anyone have any experience catching crappie on this lake? Also, if you have some knowledge, would pass a little along to me?

I have fished it for years. Easiest way for me to put you on some crappie would be to recommend pole fishing with Minnows in the timber. Look for the timber on points or in creek bends in the midlake area. Start on the deepest water and work your way in. 2 things you have to figure out are:
#1 how deep to set the minnow under the cork (I would start out a couple feet but you may have to go up to 6ft)
#2 what water depth to fish in.
I use the Thrill pencil type corks on 6lb Mr crappie line with a small split shot about 12" up from the hook on a 12ft crappie pole. Once you figure out the depth to fish and how deep to set the minnow you can recreate that all over the lake and catch fish. There will always be a few trees that hold fish and hundreds that wont. You will usually see them on your graph. This is how I started out crappie fishing on that lake. Most people there now including me spider rig, long line or cast jigs. I have not been yet this year but will be down there soon. Last week of March-1st week of April is usually the best time so its still early. A lot of those fish will still be deep in the creek channels right now. If I were going I would start looking in 25ft creek channels. This is an elementary type of fishing but its how I learned to fish the lake in the early 2000's and I always caught fish. I have limited out by lunch when it got really good and its an easy way for kids to fish.

Its not the will to win but the will to prepare to win!
