Several years ago, I know the state had regulations on the maximum let off on compound bows used while deer hunting. I think it was 70%. Is this still in effect? I can’t seem to find it. If so, how can I find a copy of the regulation

No such animal, we've been using 80% since before 2006. I think there is a let off limit for some award programs. Sonny will chime in on this one. Out this in the bow hunting section for most replies!

I’ve never known of such.

P&Y used to require 65% letoff or less for entry into the records but I think that’s even been removed now.

It’s like 90 or 95% for Bama now, if there is even still maximum requirement. It was 80% before that.

Some states do have max let off requirements though, so keep that in mind if you decide to go out West for an elk or mule deer trip. I know Colorado is 80%.

There's no let-off restriction that I found in DCNR's administrative rules. The section titled "Legal Specifications For Bow And Arrow" (220-2-.03) is pasted below:

220-2-.03 Legal Specifications For Bow And Arrow.

(1) A legal bow for hunting is defined as either a long bow, a recurve bow, a compound bow or a crossbow.

(2) It shall be unlawful, except as otherwise provided by law or regulation, for any person to hunt deer and turkey with bow and arrows that are not in conformance with the following specifications:

(a) Bows must have a minimum peak tension (within the user's normal draw length) of 30 pounds. Crossbows must have a minimum peak tension of 85 pounds at normal draw length.

(b) Arrows shall be equipped with a broadhead which has a minimum cutting diameter of 7/8 inch and 2 sharpened edges.

(3) Crossbows must be equipped with a working safety.

*Note that administrative rules can get updated periodically.

Didn't Pope & Young have a rule like this years ago?

The only rule I have heard of was poundage for shooting while hunting.
