For anyone who hunts SW Alabama (I hunt Conecuh & Escambia counties), when do you usually start to hear gobbling? I'm over 4hrs from our lease and can't go as often as I'd like, which means typically one or two weekends during turkey season. We have members who say after mid-April is when they start going in So. Alabama. What you're experience/recommendation for this part of the state?

Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and he'll sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

Had two birds gobble probably a combined 100 times opening weekend in Belleville last year.

I've hunted southwest Bama my whole life. It varies just like anywhere else. They tend to be henned up the first 2 weeks of the season but they still gobble. Every season has peaks and valleys with gobbling.

exactly; don't have to gobble to die ... i'm blessed that my very 1st bird never said a damn thing & took a Mossberg 835 dirt nap right off the roost

it's fun when they gobble & act "right" but any more i like it when i "surprise" the chit out of them

Ok...i'm with you fellas.

Thanks for the input. Guess it'll be the "go when you can, as often as you can" approach. Which is perfect!!

Hell, if this weather keeps up, they’ll be gobbled out by season. So prolly shouldn’t even waste your time this year.

I’ve hunted that part of the state ever. I wouldn’t miss the first 2 weekends if I were you.

Best time to turkey hunt is when you can.

Do you want to hear him gobble, or do you want to kill him.

I hunt in Barbour. I usually hear my first gobble of the year at daybreak on March 15’th.

Then I head off to murder that mother smacker.
