Found out today I will have about a 10 day chance to catch some coyotes. I can set out and my buddy is going to check them every day. I have never used peat moss for bedding. Saw in another thread that Hank uses a sand/PM mix. What does anyone else use? Do you mix it 50-50? Planning on screen wire pan covers and PM mix bedding.

If it keeps raining I may end up catching yellow cats in dirt holes sets. smile

I use peat with a 50/50 soil mix and wire screens.

This last set I used insulation under the pan and basically filled the trap with peat moss up to about pan level after getting it bedded good around the jaws. Then covered with dirt. It rained on them 2nd day but still caught 5 critters and they set off good last night when I took a few up.

i had this set out for about 10 days or so when the big rains came. i believe we got something like 6 inches of rain in two days. i didn't check the trap after the second day of rain til that afternoon - i actually walked out there to remake it and Surprise!!! had this girl yote in it.

i bed the trap really well (like it's in concrete. you don't want any movement). then i place a screen over the pan and sifted peat moss goes over the screen. i finish that off with a sifting of the dirt from the area and depending on the set, i add a little vegetation (rub grass or leaves or straw through the sifter).

that's the 6th or 7th one from behind the garage. there's plenty more roaming around by the sounds of it.

Dang, good catch in the back yard. Heck of a note that you have to remember where your trap is so you don’t run over it with the lawn mower. I caught one 50 yards from my parents back door a couple of months ago but they live on a farm. I’ve caught a couple of dog food stealing coons in my back yard.
