Was recently told about powder coat on coyote traps and was thinking of doing some cerakote on a few to see how it would do. Is this a good thought or do I need to just go the dying route with them???

The traps I bought with powder coat on them already had rust on them where the levers lock on the jaws when I got them.
Traps are metal on metal and abrasive surfaces are going to expose metal and cause rust. Dye and wax is tried and true.

I know powder coating isn't a durable coating and is easily marred but cerakote is a very tough coating and I have coated many firearms with it. I was just thinking out loud and wondering what the trapping community thought about cerakote if they have any thoughts on it.

[quote=AU coonhunter]It would last for a couple catches, but would get worn off eventually. How much would it cost per trap? Logwood dye is only a few bucks and will dye several dozen. I just don’t see it being very economical.[/quot
The cost would be negligible since I already have plenty of cerakote but I believe you’re right about the dye. Like I said I was just thinking out loud and wanted to here from more experienced trappers about this and so far no one I’ve talked with has thought cerakote would last more than a few sets
