This is exactly why hunting over bait should be legal. Whether your club decides to allow it or not or whether you personally hunt over it or not can be decided by you as an individual. Game wardens now are tromping all over private land walking right up to hunters and walking all over green fields (which is bait btw) and ruining peoples hunt over something as silly as looking for corn. Instead of chasing down poachers and night hunters and looking for serious offenders they are just checking for corn many times. And any disgruntled neighbor or exmember can just call in and say they saw you hunt over corn and here come the wardens. Seems like a pretty easy fix to just legalize it and use the game wardens valuable time on more important issues.

That’s not how GW up this way do it. If they get a corn complaint they find the corn without the hunters knowledge THEN catch them on it, without the hunter ever knowing they were there. Walking around asking hunters about corn don’t even seem right. That whole thing sounds weird.

This is exactly why hunting over bait should carry a MASSIVE fine and include jail time.
Make it so nobody would risk it.

My opinions and comments are my own. They do not reflect the position or political opinions of Aldeer or any of the Aldeer administration.

That doesn't work with poaching or night hunting so it probably won't work with corn either.

Matt they did the exact same thing to us opening day. Came to greenfields walked the whole perimeter didn't even check some licenses, and asked if we had corn out

Then all three need to hit the folks that don’t hunt by the game laws deeper in the pocket.

That’s just weird. Why ask about corn? It’s the officers job to find it. I’ve never seen baiting handled that way up here. The officers find the corn, catch the individual over it, take them to it, and ask if they knew they were hunting over bait. Just randomly relying on a hunter to incriminate themselves by asking if they have corn out is strange and foreign to me.

I hope those GW are checking on here. If so you 2 are fraking assholes and if you got issues with me calling you 2 that please address it you losers. Ruining a mans hunt like that is complete bullschit. Especially a man from out of state that picks a limited time to drive down to hunt. Bunch of dickheads

I know where Bud hunts based on his previous posts and we've had similar experiences with the GWs there. We had a GW come on our property this year to check people and confiscated someone's phone while they went and looked for other hunters. I was surprised by that, so I am curious. Is that normal practice? We weren't doing anything wrong, so it wasn't an issue, but just thought it was strange.

If someone came on my land and told me he was gonna confiscate my phone, I would tell him he was gonna just have to shoot me. I don't think I would give up my phone without being arrested in any situation, but he sure wouldn't get it if I were on my land and had broken no laws. Please tell us more about this story.

I've never had any bad experiences with any of our GWs. The times that we have been checked, the GW has always been very professional and courteous.

First thing I'd do is take his photo and date stamp it. Every freaking time he came and disturbed my hunts. if they want to catch someone they should wait first till they have a deer, then check it for corn and at the truck. Otherwise, they have to look thru the woods for the dead deer. If one asks where I was hunting, I'd "Clinton" him and say I don't recall. This is clear harassment. What was done to piss him off?

don't bather calling Chuck...put the call to Kay Ivey. Chitt flowing downhill, esp from the governers office, flows faster and carries more clout.

I'd not give up my phone without a physical fight. It ain't legal for him to take that phone w/o a warrant, or in the administration of an arrest.

I hate that you got checked for no apparent reason several times, but am glad they seem to care less whether it’s Joe Blow or a Circuit Court Judges land.

poorcountry - It is leased land. The GW has been on previously. The guy he caught this time had a license, credentials and was not hunting over corn. He asked if there were other people hunting and the gentleman he found said "yes." He took his phone and went to find the other hunters. I wasn't there so I can explain other specifics. I wouldn't have put up a fight over my phone, but also agree that it shouldn't be done. In the moment though you don't want to start trouble if it isn't necessary.

taking the phone was not a legal "seizure" and shouldn't of been tolerated.

Whew I’m glad Jackson county has good game wardens that actually try to catch poachers and trespassers instead of worrying the legal hunters to death. I wouldn’t be able to handle that

If the GW asked for it and the hunter gave it to him then it is the hunters fault
