I always liked those year trucks (the 1st body style). Knew a guy with a black 4dr 4wd leveled on 33's.... one of the best looking trucks I've seen.

Yup, they are one of the best looking trucks made in the last 20 years.

Sig Sauer, to hell and back reliable.

Whatever suits you just tickles me plum to death.

Can I refill your eggnog for you? Get you something to eat? Drive you out to the middle of nowhere and leave you for dead?

I had a 2005 Black limited crew cab with the 4.7L lifted on 34s plenty of power and gas mileage was horrible. Now I have a 2007 with the 5.7 and love it even more. I paid 11750 for the 2005 with 119 on the clock and sold it for 10000 with 187. it hugged hell regularly and held up pretty good. The vaccum pump problem is on the 2007 and up. Dealership will cost 4000 to fix. The pump is $120 on eBay and takes about 2 hours to change. I don’t plan on owning anything but Tundra’s and old Tacoma’s from now on.

Bulletproof but gas mileage is bad.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

That's the newer(ish) ones....if you live somewhere that doesn't require inspection, you can bypass the AIP system entirely for $100 or so.

This /\/\/\/\.. I have a 2005 and love it but you will get 14-16 mpg. no matter how you drive, the only time it will change is if you are pulling a load then it goes down to around 12mpg. or so...

From what I understand the 4.7L and the 5.7L get about the same MPG, so go bigger. But the 4.7L has been reliable for me. MPG's do kinda stink, but that's just the way Toyotas are.

I have the 4.7 liter and knock on wood it is still running good, it has 284,879 miles on it as of this morning, only had one problem with it, the mass air sensor went out a couple years ago, it hurt my wallet to the tune of $3200 but other than that it has been great..

I'm assuming 4wd? That seems a little high in price for a 12 year old truck. But it'll still probably last another 10 years with normal driving.

If it is 4x4 it is worth it, if it is in good shape..., I wouldn't pay 12 for it in 2 wheel drive..

Factor in a timing belt change, unless you know for sure it's been changed recently.

I have a 2003 4wd with the 4.7L it averages 15 around town and it was getting 17-18 on interstate. They are very solid trucks. Traded my T100 that had 250k for this one. It had 99k on it when I got it now has 160k. My work furnished truck is a 2wd F150 with a 4.6 and the gas mileage isnt any better than my Tundra.

If 14-16 avg is accurate for a 4wd Crew cab, that really isn't bad. It's almost exactly what my '13 FX4 Crew gets. And lets be honest, nobody buys a 4dr 4wd truck for the gas mileage. It's nice when you get good mileage, but that's not typically one of the deciding factors in a truck purchase.

The V8s have timing chains instead of belts. From '05 forward the V6s do as well.

Tundras are known for their dependability. They are also known for their gas mileage. Can't go wrong with a Toyota if you are looking to keep it for a while.

My book says an 06 tundra has a belt.

I have a 2006 Tundra 2wd with 303,000 miles on it. The 2000-2006 Tundras are bulletproof. I'll probably buy another used one with lower miles as my next truck. My dad has a 2003 Tundra 4wd with 280,000 miles. Only bad thing about the trucks are the gas mileage like everyone else says but I'd rather have dependability over gas mileage any day. Don't notice any difference in gas mileage on either.
