Looking to add a second axle to our boat trailer to help with towing. Boat is a 2072 Grizzly Tracker that has had some fab work done and is pretty beefy. I know nothing about trailers or axles and what I need to order so steer me in the right direction. Some pics of the axle are attached. Also let me know if anything on the current axle needs replacing while we’re at it. Thanks!

Best bet buy another trailer or put a bigger axle under it. See what size axle that is. I'm guessing 3000lb. You shouldn't be anywhere near the weight limit on that.

I would be more worried about my boat hull warping or breaking welds from the undistributed weight added. But i cant think of what you could really install to make any problems besides loss of mpgs.

I appreciate the response, but I don't have the money to buy a new trailer. I feel the boat and trailer bounce a little more than I would like it to when towing and would feel safer with another set of wheels underneath it.

You will spend more getting a axle added than it will cost to buy a new trailer. I'm guessing for labor and axle you will spend at least 700.00. There is a a lot of labor that will go into it to do it right. You can't just slap a axle on it and it be good. Look around on Craig's list. You can probably get a trailer for 400-500.

Heck they are gonna bounce when you drive over bumps and are flying. Gotta drive like your pulling a boat. If you added weight it should bounce less. Maybe you dont have it tied down good and got some Earnhardt in ya? Just slow down and stay in the slow lane.

If you have to make a sharp turn backing your trailer into a garage, you will hate having dual axles.
