What kind of sign have you found so far? Don't rush in if it's an iffy shot. How did the deer react to the shot?
Two shots. Broadside, but running shot. I swear I blew his tail off on the first shot. Found good blood for about 200 yards though. Hard to tell reaction. Actually got the first shot on a trail cam. Hard for me to see on a small screen phone though.

That white hair is likely from a low belly shot. You need to back out until at least late this afternoon. Go ahead and get a dog lined up.

For reference…..see where this buck is hit…..that’s where you likely hit him unless you really did blow his tail off. This deer was still alive 18 hrs after the shot but hurt pretty badly. Go in with a dog about 3:00….if you jump him and he’s still really lively then back out until tomorrow morning.....or just wait until tomorrow morning to begin with and don't even track him today.

I think you are right about his tail being shot off.
I tried zooming in as far as I could and it looked to me like he buckled a little in the back end and then hunched up. Need to be able to make it full screen though and put it in slow mo some how.

I think he is hit low belly or just in front of the hip in that long white hair. You’ll get that deer with a good dog and a little patience. No need to push him. Give him time.

You can shoot ones tail off. I Did it on a running shot and had great blood for 300 yards. Killed him 2 weeks later with no tail and a disgusting infection thing that I hit with my knife when cleaning him. It shot all over my shirt and I threw up

lol
I don't always hunt the line, but when I do, I make sure I'm close to my neighbor's 8 acre bean field.

I’m saying the deer is still alive. They’ve been tracking for two hours now. If he was dead then they would have likely found him by now. That’s assuming Joe is not slow playing this and stringing us all along. You never know around here.

This. If he is really tail shot he is gonna bleed a lot for a long ways but may still have all 4 legs and necessary organs

No recovery. Trackers and dog were great. They couldn’t believe the deer lost so much blood yet went so far. Will try to share more tomorrow. Going to bed.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

So here is the story, although not much to it. Got in the stand at first light Monday morning. This is a new spot on the property that I haven’t hunted at all until this year. 4 of 5 morning sits has had deer sightings, which is good for the farm. Every deer I have seen there had been with them just slowly easing through. About 7:30 yesterday morning, this buck came running through like a freight train. I hollered and hollered at him, but he paid me no attention. Fired off a couple shots the best I could (50 or so yards).
What was ironic is we had carted a deer out the previous morning on the same trail he was running so at first couldn’t tell if I got blood or if it was just from the other deer. We found where the blood trail went off in another direction though. Good blood. Probably the best blood trail I have had to follow. Most deer have been DRT this year though. Followed the trail for a couple hundred yards then backed out. We never went into the thick stuff. Dog arrived about 4:00pm. Last night was our only shot with having to get my son home and the weather going south. Long story short, found where he went back and forth in the thick stuff. Then the dog found where he had bedded down several hundred yards away in thick stuff near the road. A lot of blood and some scat. The deer had crossed the main highway.
I wasn’t prepared for this and it’s a hard lesson learned. Much of the farm is surrounded by timber owned by someone my family has known for years. Never would have guessed he would have gone the wait he did (toward the main road). The land across the road is small parcels of timber with no homes. No doors to knock on. Found out one of the land owners was in Illinois (public tax records). I should have spent the mid-day getting permission to enter. If anyone has tips for tracking down phone numbers for owners of vacant land, I’d appreciate the advice.
I THINK this is the buck. Not the biggest rack or old deer, but would have been my best by far.

The buck in the video ain’t no joke. That’s a great deer and IMO not the deer you shot.
I'm with you. The rack in the first video doesn't look near as tall as the second video. Could be an optical illusion though.
I have had that thought too. Just wondered if the head bobbing up and down made it hard to judge the height.
Could be. However, when I watch the first video I'm thinking yeah it's a buck running away, but when I watch the second video I'm thinking dang that's a slaunch.
