It's a fairly common occurrence that a couple weeks before the real chasing starts I will start to get pictures of bucks I had never seen before. I know a bucks gone range typically grows during this time and they are out checking scrapes and looking for the first hot doe. But what's the chances any of these bucks relocate after the rut?

slim to none. Most of em show up, stay a few weeks, and disappear again.

Heard bill a lee lakosky say that late season is the time to draw in bucks to stay. If they find the food and cover that they dont have on their range they could set up shop. Works well.for our rut and late season.

According to our cameras, odds are pretty slim with mature bucks. We have had some luck convincing a few new 2.5 and 3.5 yr olds to stay over the years.

I was thinking in the past I have seen them show up for a while then disappear again. And I have had some of "my" regular bucks disappear for weeks but some back up in late February.

Would not know, we never get new bucks on camera. Our older more mature deer move earlier and get their pictures taken closer to food sources but they are the same deer who have been on us all year.

my buddy killed a mature 9 pt. this weekend that we had never seen or had pics of. He showed up on a food plot at 5:00 staying close to a doe. We seem to have some "resident" deer and then seem to get a few new bucks for a few weeks this time of year.

Most mature bucks are mature because they already have a good spot to call home. Your best chance at recruiting new bucks are with the young 1 ½ year old dispersing bucks that have just left mama. They are the ones looking for new homes.

Ben you have a weird situation going on to never pick up new deer throughout the season. I’ve never seen that anywhere.

During the rut smaller bucks get pushed around by larger bucks, and will often disperse to new ground and stay. I’ve not seen that happen very often with mature bucks, but it can.

been like this since we started running a bunch of cams. Not sure why, I have had 3 BIG deer over the years that I got 1 pic of during summer that I never got another pic of but I imagine they got shot by aid of a light
They were all close to a road. Other than those I have pics of deer in summer and then kill them within 50 acres of where they stayed during the summer.

I am not saying we don't get new young bucks. I don't keep up with the 1 and 2 yr olds unless they are special. But once a 2 or 3 yr old is there they stay until killed or they die from what I have seen. No new mature deer just show up during the rut
