Snow chances again. Possibly a day to not venture a long way from home if you're in the northern half of the state.
Models are light on the totals but some are hinting at some possible 1-2" amounts and, with colder than normal temps, what does fall will turn roads nasty in a hurry.
We all saw how that type of scenario turned out in B'ham a few years ago.

Last forecast I saw called for possible negative temps, accumulation and then several days of bitter cold. Awesome. Compared it to the winter storm of 1985 here that shut things down for several days.

I hate snow and any extreme cold, that being anything under 32 degrees.

Yep, but that was only after they reassured us that there would not be any snow within 100 miles of Birmingham, and so everyone went to work. At 10-11AM, it was pure pandemonium, as the roads quickly covered in snow. Never seen anything like it.

Models slowly creeping up precip totals. This system isn't going to be a huge snow maker but could cause travel issues throughout a large part of the state.

I usually say the same thing but 2014 was terrible in Birmingham. This model is shaping up similarly. You can’t take any chances with even minimal snow events in extreme cold. Snowing 8” in 35 degree temps is more manageable than snowing .5” in 25 degree temps. Looking at the radar there’s some moisture creeping up out of the gulf I am not certain they expected, so there could be more precip than what they’re predicting.

Hills.
Snow hits > that 32° pavement so it melts a little and gets super slick as air temps plummet within a couple hours. Non 4WD vehicles will have tons of issues on any hill, even slight inclines. That's exactly what happened in Birmingham in 2014. I gave rides all through Bluff Park for hours between I-65 at Alford Avenue and the Galleria mall. Drove about 100 people home in 4WD LOW and 1st gear. Thousands of cars wrecked, stuck or just couldn't go any further all over town.
AWD cars could make all but the steepest hills. 4WD could go most anywhere if drivers knew what to do. Downhill was nerve wracking at times though if a car in front of you ever stopped.
Y'all be safe.

I bet those 75 year old school bus drivers have mad skills for driving in icy conditions. Yup exactly. I'm not one to squeal think of the children but we don't have the equipment to deal with snow & ice. Children hurt/killed and equipment damaged/ totaled is very easily preventable.

The NWS has adjusted the official snow forecast further south. Now it looks like Montgomery, Selma Demopolis is going to get some good stuff. Further south to Troy Luverne Camden may get some but thats really a 50/50 shot. Other than that its still going to be cold as a witches tit statewide.

The system has over performed models, in areas to the west, tonight. Some areas where models forecast 2-3" have already received double that.

The system has over performed models, in areas to the west, tonight. Some areas where models forecast 2-3" have already received double that. So you're saying they predict winter storms as well as they do hurricanes?

Don’t plan on another 2104 for me. So you've been back to the future, too?

The NWS has adjusted the official snow forecast further south. Now it looks like Montgomery, Selma Demopolis is going to get some good stuff. Further south to Troy Luverne Camden may get some but thats really a 50/50 shot. Other than that its still going to be cold as a witches tit statewide. WSFA is saying that the Montgomery area could get over an inch while Andalusia area Southeast could get three inches of snow. Schools and businesses are closing things left and right in Montgomery except my office. And what’s not closing all day is shutting down at noon tomorrow until Wednesday afternoon. I had no idea all this was going on I just got in from hunting and it’s snow Armageddon all on TV.

Don’t matter if it’s neck deep to a giraffe I still gotta work. Know the feeling, unless cell phones take a snow day.

My employer talks big about safety all year. Safety safety safety. Ice on roads? Yeah you better be here... Same here. Im driving their truck is the only plus. The last one that came they kept us there so long after it started getting bad my normal 30 minute drive home from Bham turned into 2 hours. One of our guys made it to the bass pro exit in leeds and slept in his truck all night. He ended up walking to the first pell city exit the next day. Another guy from clanton spent 24 hrs on the side of 65 somewhere around the shelby co airport. He told the boss today not a chance in hell we would see him tomorrow.

Snow and ice already on roads in Arkansas, primarily in the northeast corner but also up in the Ozarks and also around Little Rock.

i'm starting to feel like I should own tire chains. There have been a lot of times over the last few years that I have wished I had them.

I'm working from home tomorrow I think. I'll run to the office in the morning to get some files, then chill at home writing a report. Probably bill 4 hours, so not a total loss.

i'm starting to feel like I should own tire chains. There have been a lot of times over the last few years that I have wished I had them. I bought some for my wife's van when we went to the Smokies and snow was expected. Ended up needing them. I don't have any for my truck...always put it off.

Models haven't handled the moisture well at all with this. Radar is much more robust than what was modeled, at the moment.

Jason Simpson of WHNT 19 just showed a map of the snow diminishing southwest of Huntsville, a slight break in the band, but said it is expected to intensify again this afternoon.

Employees could be home right now but they have been doing nothing but clucking like scared chickens for the past 4 hours, rather than working.

I'm needin to lose weight pretty bad so I think I'll go out and shovel 4 or 500lbs of North wind out of the driveway since that's all that's blocking my truck in. I should burn a lot of calories or carburetors or something with that much activity.
I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.
