CNN has produced a movie �against� trophy hunting in Africa as a form of conservation. It comes on at 8:00pm tonight.

I have read that the producers started this movie to prove that hunting was bad but they learned that the ONLY way for animals to survive is through hunting dollars.
I�m now hearing that AWF is trying to stop the airing of the movie tonight because it puts hunting on a positive light.

The native African species would be extinct if not for hunting. I think all of us here realize that.

It�s not the 500 +/- guys on here that are regulars. It�s ALL the folks that might be watchingf tonight that concern me.

Who would've thought CNN had no idea what they were talking about.

I don't think my TV will turn to CNN.

They had some dude on there that if I understood him correctly, stated that hunting has saved the animals in south Africa

Almost 100% of what is in this show is accurate.

I�m shocked.

So far, it seems the producers of this show are really torn. It seems the overall theme is "hunting and hunters is pretty crappy, but it's the only way to save the population of animals, as a whole, so I guess we'll have to get over it."

That was my take too.

I think the guy in the first part of the show was on the CNN payroll. I know there are IDOTs out there but I doubt anyone would act like he did for CNN on a show about hunting.

I hope they show this again. I saw this thread too late last night to watch. Don't ever watch CNN so I had no idea it was coming on.

I saw the first 1/2, so I can't speak to the 2nd half. I thought CNN was trying its best to show hunting in a bad light, but it kept coming around to the fact that hunting is the only reason that some of these animals haven't gone extinct. While they hate the hunting, it has benefits. It also showed that making the selling rhino horns illegal, drove up the value in Asia, and significantly increased poaching.

Here's a quote from the filmmaker, Christina Clusiau:

"We really wanted to shame the [hunting] industry, but then we realized it's not so black and white"

Imagine that.

The point being that, if you watch the movie, it's pretty obvious they set out to do that. The people they choose to follow, the wording they use, the way shots are framed. You can tell they set out to do a "hit job", then as they filmed and edited it, they went "well, chit.....this ain't gonna work". At least the filmmaker appears to be a little open-minded about it.

Also, spoiler alert for those that didn't watch/finish the movie, South Africa ended up allowing the sale of rhino horn.

Certain species around the world are literally extinct in their home range, and have been repopulated using captive (hunted) species from the U.S.

Without hunting, these animals literally have no value. The people that say they value them for their beauty, don't actually. Hunters are the only ones that do.

BGH, I've heard that hunting guides is the only way many of the locals over there make their living. Is that true? If so, leave it to a bunch of American left wing nut jobs to get involved in a foreign country and take away the people's mean of living, all in the sake of making themselves few good about themselves.

Most of the natives have no way of making any income. Therefore, they can't provide meat for their families. That's why poaching is so appealing to them. They can either go get meat for their family by poaching and/or get paid for poaching. I'm not just talking about ivory and rhino horn. I mean poaching for meat. When they poach for meat they kill EVERYTHING they can.

The only way to put value on these animals is to have an outfitter pay the village elders (X?) for hunting rights. When the outfitter has a financial incentive to hunt their area, he will hire a few local men to track/skin/etc. Then he will hire a few local women to cook/clean/etc. at the camp.

It's a win win for everyone/every animal involved.

My favorite part was the 2 fat protesters in Vegas. I�ve never ever seen a fat vegan which they claimed they were. It happened when the first hunter asked them about that chicken they ate today.

I bet they clip in Trump Jr. and say something negative about him being a big game hunter.
