"I would gently explain to my children that while it is his absolute right to do it, I do not approve. In no uncertain terms I would tell them that if I ever catch THEM wearing brown slacks, blue socks and black shoes, IN PUBLIC, I will slap the shucks out of them."

I wouldn't open carry in public. It only identifies you to a criminal as a threat and you would be his first target. If it hit the fan, I'd be grateful he was there and the criminal would concentrate on him till I got mine out.

Funny, I saw a guy coming out of Home Depot the other day with a double shoulder rig, a 1911 .45 under each arm. I just walked in unnoticed, possibly with a concealed Shield on my hip.

I saw a guy a while back double open carrying wearing a kilt! Had I'm serious written all over it.

Have seen these type of questions before. Just anti-gun libs being jackwagons on social to feel better about themselves with "support" from like-minded people. When they're rebuffed then they all get on their soapboxes with each other.

A woman I know did this about a year ago while on a plane but with a guy in the seat in front of her reading a magazine story about AR-style rifles. She leaned up, took a photo of him, then posted on Facebook something along the lines of "I'm on a plane and this man is reading this. Should I be concerned???"

Of course, almost all her responses were "OMG, you should tell the attendant and have him removed!" or things along those lines. I asked why she was basically invading his space with a photo and trying to shame him, and that reading a magazine isn't illegal. A few others did, too. She eventually deleted the post.

Concealed carry IMO is better but I don't give two chits if someone's is openly carrying.

I have no problem with open carry and I also don�t think it necessarily makes you a target. Robbing someone is a wolf vs sheep mentality. If they see another wolf is in the room they will most likely move on to a softer setting/target. Someone open carrying may stop a robbery without even knowing it.

I�m a 2A guy and I dislike open carry.
It�s usually the Hi-Point in an Uncle Mike�s as mentioned.
I don�t know this guy, dunno his training, makes me nervous.
I believe strongly in concealed carry.

My experience with open carry is that it�s a deterrent . I had two thugs to come into my shop with bad intentions until I turned for them to see what was on my hip and it prevented them from going any further with their intended actions

Open carry gives up the element of surprise. It also says, "shoot me first" in event of an armed robbery. No thank you. Concealed carry is the way to go.

If it wasnt for the greedy sheriff's department Alabama gunowners probably wouldn't be required to renew every year. You should be able to carry concealed without the annual pay to carry ordeal

You get a 7 year license in Florida.

The belt doesn't match the holster. That is a police fashion faux pas. He obviously doesn't need to be carrying.

Not sure about other counties in Alabama, but in Tuscaloosa, you can pay for a 5yr CC permit

I'm pretty sure you missed the point. Texas mom Cleary gives no shats about the open carry. Mocking the Op' s picture with her comment. I personally am not a fan of open carry unless I'm in the woods or bush hogging etc. But not I public I feel like the element of surprise is key when a situation arises, like mentioned above walk softly and carry a big stick. I also don't understand the folks that carry a fixed blade skinning knife like it's a pistol. I seen a few of those guys with toting a Rambo sized bowie knives prancing around like they got the new high point strapped on

I know an off duty Officer that was in a bank with a friend when two black men came in and robbed the bank. They made everyone lay on the floor. Officer decided to let em go as there were several other folks in the bank and was worried about a shootout inside the bank. The younger robber kept saying he was going to shoot someone and got more agitated. Officer decided the crazy robber WAS going to shoot someone, pulled his concealed handgun and killed BOTH of the robbers.


He never would of gotten that chance if he had been carrying open for the robbers to see.

I personally think that open carry only draws attention to you. Some good but mostly bad. If something were to go down I don`t want anybody to know I have a gun until I have to use it.

To me, it screams "shoot me first."
