My Dad killed a 4.5 year old 7 point yesterday afternoon and I’d like to share the story. Here’s the story of “Too Tall”... This buck showed up on camera in November 2016 as a tall racked 8 point. I wanted to think he was only 3.5 years old, but I wasn’t sure. He’s always been a tall, long, and lean deer. A couple of the pictures I got of him in 2016 had me confused on his age, but I knew he was at least 3.5 in 2016...We never saw him in 2016 and I almost never got a daylight picture of him...He broke his left brow tine off at the beginning of November that year. *Month and day are correct on all pics. Year is incorrect* As I always do, I began putting out some corn in front of my cameras after deer season and “Too Tall” would frequent this corn pile on a hardwood ridge that we call “Buck Ridge”. Too Tall lost his antlers sometime between 2/23/16 and 2/27/16. We searched a lot on Buck Ridge for these sheds, but never could find them before everything greened up for the Spring. Later in April, my Dad found both sides of his sheds in a foodplot (20’ apart from each other) while Dad was turkey hunting...Dad put these antlers on a piece of 4”x4” and we’ve admired them in our camp house since then. Too Tall was MIA this Summer and Fall on my cameras and I was beginning to think that he was dead or wasn’t using our property any longer. I put a camera on an active scrape in mid December and guess who was one of the first bucks to show up; yep, Too Tall!! He hadn’t grown much since last season, but it didn’t matter. He was at least 4.5 now and so our cat and mouse game began!! We have a ladder stand about 75 yards from this scrape and I began hunting there a lot. I never laid eyes on Too Tall and on January 1st, he came to mock me at the scrape at 7:00 am. I had went home the day before to watch football and be lazy on New Year’s Day. Since then, Dad and I have seen lots of “good” deer at dark on foodplots near this area, but never could pull the trigger because it was too dark to tell for sure. We’re trying our best to not kill bucks under 4.5 years old...Yesterday afternoon was the perfect storm for Dad! Dad saw tons of deer and Too Tall walked out into the field at 5:15 pm. Too Tall was the seventh buck Dad saw yesterday afternoon. I’m very proud of Dad this season!! He’s been very patient and has let lots of younger bucks walk. His patience paid off with Too Tall...It’s been a lot of fun chasing this ole boy!!! Too Tall didn’t have a lick of fat on him and was very run down from the rut. He weighed 155 lbs. and he is a 4.5 year old...Dad shot Too Tall about 150 yards from where he found the sheds.

Crazy how little his rack changed Yep. He added some mass, beam length, and width, but not a whole lot of any of them...It’s just another lesson that every buck can’t grow into a 140”+ deer

Awesome man!! Congrats to both y'all. It's a great feeling when you've had pics of certain bucks multiple years and can close the book on them like that. Having found his sheds is an added bonus!!

Brian congrats to your dad and you. You guys always have some cool history with the deer y’all kill. You do an awesome job with details in your story’s!!

Congrats on a great buck! In those first 2 pics of your Dad holding him, he sure looks heavier bodied than 155.

Congratulations to you and your dad! Awesome buck!
But I’ve got a question for those of y’all that know about antler growth. The OP said that Too Tall broke his brow tine on the right in November of 16. Then his dad found the sheds and you can obviously see where it broke. Then when the buck grew it’s new rack in 17 it didn’t grow back. Is that common? It seems like the brow tine since it was broken off it would have grown back. Interesting to me how that happens.
