Does anyone know why TVA has the water pulled down so low? Very low below the dam as well. Did the TN river quit flowing? smile

Assume they getting ready for whatever this little storm will bring. They have to plan for whatever falls upstream of here. That’s the general answer I’ve received ever. You fishing in this wather, Fur?

No. I thought about going Sauger fishing in the morning, but then I came to my senses.

I assumed maybe it had to do with trying to keep the power being supplied met with what is needed and being used.

That's just a guess. Either way it is as low right now as I've seen in a long time. It's been low the last couple of weeks and today was even lower. Crossing North Sauty refuge on my way home I saw stumps sticking up in places where I've never seen them stick up.

]Perfect sauger fishing weather and I did it a lot as a younger man. The majority of sauger fishing trips included rod guides icing up. With age comes wisdom wink

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

Was thinking this morning it would be a great day to be smallmouth fishing, with this front moving in spitting snow and ice. Probably for sauger, too.

jbatey1 nailed it. Lots of water was used up for generation last week in the cold snap and hasn’t yet been replenished. CD.

552 would be down 43 feet. I think minimum winter pool is 592. Current level is 593.82 Normal pool is 595.44

Y’all would be very surprised how little guntersville dam can generate. It will only generate 140 megawatts. Our system (Marshall-DeKalb Electric) peeked at 110 megawatts the other morning when it was at its coldest . We only have 28,000 customers

That is very surprising. Where does most of our power come from?

I've been told 15 different reasons from 15 different folks who were supposedly "in the know" but, for whatever reason, the river level below the dam is always kept low this time of year and has been for as long as I can remember.

Can’t be answered cause the power grid is connected. TVA could have bought power weeks ago from somewhere up north to be prepared for the extra load. You just never know.

Don’t most of the power come from coal and new-clear.

Wilson Lake is not very big at all and can't store water like Guntersville. It's kept low to help prevent flooding if and when Guntersville has to release lots of water.

Very little coal fired TVA power now, if any. Colbert Steam Plant shut down a good while back and just the other day Johnsnville TN coal plant closed it's doors. Natural gas has replaced coal for firing steam plants. Nuke plants are where most generation comes from.

Nukes provide the base load because they basically run at full power at all times. The remaining coal fired plants and hydro and gas plants are used to “regulate”. This means adding/reducing generation to meet load requirements. CD.

Brandon, for comparison, SQN pumps out around 2400 MWs with its 2 units.

Saint gobain has to go off line everytime it gets super hot or cold. They are madison counties biggest user by far. Cause they have 8 or 9 arc furnaces and only run about 3 at once. Tva would shut them down everytime. It made me realize how pathetic our systems are and how we have a false sense of safety around us. If it got about 95 degrees they would have to shut us down for the day or night. Their electric bill is 250-550 thousand bucks a month!!!
